ah c'mon: It's Marcello, ergo it's the pris.

A riveting and personally deeply affecting review from Mark.

The book is still available here (and also in any decent bookshop, i.e. Foyles and the odd branch of Daunt).

Incidentally I'll be doing a major post on BiA later this week, given the importance of this particular week to me, discussing the current top five singles and other associated/dissociated things.

Saw that in the image name, still don't know what it is- sorry, I have to climb a steep Septic ramp over here to understand any of this stuff. Suppose I will have to read the Marcello's book to find out.

The images are:

i: yes, a scene from "the prisoner"
ii: a scene from Help! = the only other screen epic to feature both Leo McKern and Patrick Cargill
iii: a young and v.hottt Dorothy Squires with her then-beau pretending to play the piano and be in love with her (he later dumped for for a much younger Italian woman and DS never got over it)
iv: a ball chair for YOU

mark s, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:07 (fourteen years ago)

DSquires looks like Tippi Hedren in that pic.

Mark G, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:09 (fourteen years ago)

Makes sense:

The Ball Chair was designed by Finnish furniture designer Eero Aarnio in 1963. The Ball Chair is also known as the globe chair and is famous for its unconventional shape. It is considered a classic of industrial design. More recent versions have increased the overall size and added interesting features including music and MP3 player integration.

God bless the Kirbymeister but he makes Number 6 look like Lance Percival!

Plus, that's a very busy village, for being empty.

When I was there, there were 10 people around (not including *us*), but was still quiet.

Hate to be that guy but there's a spelling error in the first sentence of your review, where it says though instead of through

I for one am (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 22 August 2011 11:37 (fourteen years ago)

I think I was scared of Dorothy Squires as a child, she was v. butch + v. blonde + used to bellow songs in a way even Shirley Bassey would baulk at. That marriage to Roger Moore was a bit weird, no? I've always assumed she was a big lezzer and he was pretty boy on the make. Don't know how true that is though. I'm going to sit down and read this review and then, hopefully, some day sit down and read Marcello's book! In fact, I've got a coach journey to Glasgow coming up (bit short on cash these days) so could do with something to read.

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Monday, 22 August 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

does the big white balloon ever get to sit in the ball chair?

mark s, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:43 (fourteen years ago)

I'd concur with the first sentence, but the photo sort-of explains things: They were both young and good looking...

Mark G, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:43 (fourteen years ago)

xpost oh yes it does...

Mark G, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:44 (fourteen years ago)

Thanks for detailed explanation of images, mark s. Seem to recall The Prisoner being in B&W, don't remember the color. In other words, saw the Hard Day's Night episodes but not the Help! episode

Viriconium Island Baby (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 22 August 2011 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

No, all the prisoner episodes were in colour.

You may either be thinking of Danger Man, which was mostly in B&W, or your telly.

Mark G, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:54 (fourteen years ago)

The very idea of The Prisoner in b+w is blowing my tiny mind!

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Monday, 22 August 2011 11:57 (fourteen years ago)

Probably was my telly, you are right. In b+w it looked like Orson Welles's version of The Trial , say
