"Sludgefeast" is the best named Dino Jr song ever, but I think I'm going to end up voting for "The Lung" too. Unless I vote for "Little Fury Things". Or "Poledo". Or "In a Jar". Ah, shit, now I need to go listen to this again.

imo no remaster has every been a more dramatic improvement from one CD edition of an album to another than the Merge reissue compared to the SST disc

From listening to this album so many times, starting on an SST tape, I have come to terms with Poledo being there and kind of like it now, but man I used to hate having to get up to forward wind the tape to Show me the Way.

To me, I don't think of Just Like Heaven being on this album, as it wasn't on the Cd or tape of the one I had. Goes to show how the reissues kind of change things. I had it, but it was on that EP in the cardboard sleeve.

when i first started listening to this album, i had the version with "show me the way" as the closer, but when i first bought the record, i had the version with "just like heaven" (iirc)

i think the first time i heard this was in 2006

i think it is funny how one CD version swaps out the bonus cover for a different bonus cover instead of using both. but yeah although i like the covers i prefer listening to the 'true' album as ending with "Poledo" (although tbh the album is REALLY just those 7 great Mascis-penned tracks for me)

up until a minute ago i had no idea this was supposed to end w/ "poledo," so i haven't listened to it w/ that in mind

Show Me the Way was on the original SST CD and I think it was on the tape I had, not sure on the vinyl.

There was an SST EP or single in a cardboard sleeve that had Just Like Heaven. It came out not long before Green Mind if I remember right kind of a bit after Bug.

the studio "just like heaven" kinda pales in comparison to some of the live recordings i've heard from the same era tbh

i haven't heard this record in forever. i do remember seeing them in Santa Monica in 1994 and SeBADoh a month earlier at the Roxy on Sunset. i liked the Roxy show better.

Underrated Aerosmith Cover Band was the opener for Sebadoh @ Roxy in 94 iirc and i do believe irc.

btw, that was one of the last shows i saw (along with the Cranes and Stone Roses) in So Cal before moving to San Francisco in the first half of 1995.

gonna vote the lung but the whole album is a traet, and works best as a whole thing for me. have very clear memories of walking in the summer rain around my hometown when i was 17 with a cassette I'd made with this on one side and I don't remember what was on the other side because i would always wind it back to listen to YLAOM again.

this album is proper sublime, btw.

"The Lung", was my favorite the first time I listened and is still my favorite Dinosaur, Jr., song. Perfect guitar solo, coming at the perfect time in the song, followed by the super-cool outro.

I've got the SST vinyl Dinosaur Jr version, it ends with Poledo. as it should!

If 'Show Me The Way' had been on the album it would have kind of ruined it a bit for me. Voted 'Little Fury Things', first song of theirs I ever heard. Even more than any of J's solos, I just love the way the way he uses his whatever-pedal-it-is on this - that glorious big whushhhhh that comes in on the later iterations of the chorus

i think its a wahwah pedal pushed all the way down. i love the way he uses that trebly wash of white noise on this record

I didn't like living all over me when it came out and dug the first album a lot more, came to terms with it around '89 but still think the best dino song is prolly "repulsion" or "forget the swan"

Thinking that 'Leper', 'Repulsion' and esp. 'Forget the Swan' are as good as most things on YLAOM, but maybe not much else from the first album? Has been years since I listened to it though.
