There are a whole bunch of singles that have 'part 2' on side 2, mostly they are instrumental or dub versions.
They do not count.
Ones that do are where the sounds carry on from where side 1 fades out. Doesn't have to be the same song.
Probably limited to 7" singles, but who knows?
1. "Playground Twist" and "Pull to bits" Siouxsie and the Banshees - is there anyplace this exists as one whole track?
2. "Get Dancing" parts one and two - Disco Tex and his Sex-o-lettes - some good breaks on part two, again nowhere has it as a unified whole.
3. "Marquee Moon" parts one and two - Television. I know, it's very available.

4. Fleetwood Mac 'Oh Well' - I think the first Greatest Hits contains this as a whole.

5. Don McLean, "American Pie" iirc.

Isn't Alphabet Street just the long version on side 2?
To qualify it'd have to start with the "Cat, we need you to rap" bit.

the 7-inch I have does exactly that.

Fair enough then.

Television's debut 7" does this too, Little Johnny Jewel Pts. 1 & 2. Since the reissue of Marquee Moon widely available in reunified form.

Why do artists/labels do this? 12" too expensive? No b-side available? Especially cutting up one track is weird.

We can't ignore this timeless Phil Spector classic!

Oh, and Ray Charles' "What's I Say"
― Mark G, Thursday, 25 August 2011 14:56 (fourteen years ago)
ach.
What'd I say parts one and two.
A ton of 78s did this, right? Furry Lewis' "Kassie Jones" from the Harry Smith Anthology comes to mind.

How did they fit "Hey Jude" on one side of a 45?
Yes very common on 78s, and almost the norm for classical music and some jazz. Sometimes a single piece would stretch more than one disc.

One that almost was.... (both sides of originally planned picture sleeve)

Instead the Smile project collapsed and this truncated version b/w "You're Welcome" was substituted:
