Enon High Society Poll

i like a lot of these songs, but "Diamond Raft" entrances me so much that i feel i have to vote for it, one of my favorite album-closers of all time

ha, i own this album and have no idea where it is. probably in the garage, will try and listen and vote.

sold! is so fucking incredible i cant quite land on the right metaphor to describe how effective a banger it is but the weird layers they keep adding as it plays it always please me so much

yeah "Sold!" is definitely in my top 3, that's really an airtight pop/rock song.

I'm gonna wait to re-listen to this before voting, but I'm leaning toward "Natural Disaster." Such a perfect little pop song.

It's been so long since I've heard this album I can't remember a lot of the songs, but I recall that the opening track absolutely rips. Definitely an album that just pulls you right in.

"Old Dominion" is awesome.

Played sold! At my wedding so that is prob going to get my vote, but I will listen to it again before being impulsive.

title track is one of those "the thought of this transports me to a specific time and place in my youth" tracks so it has to be that one

I just saw this poll-- my wife and I relistened to this just last week. Great album. 'Sold!' is the best Rick Springfield cover that is not a Rick Springfield cover.

Was just going to vote for Now You Has Jazz, then realised it's wrong High Soc.

Voted "Old Dominion" just over "Natural Disasters" and "Salty". The whole album is pretty fucking great, though.

I remember this as one of those albums where every song was my favorite at one point or another. Still think it's kinda underrated in the "indie" or whatever canon. Any favorite track I pick would be just for the moment...

Oh, I'd add that this one is *waaaaay* better than Believo, though I have to thank that record for bringing SeeThru records to my attention, meaning I also found the Thou album "Put Us In Tune" (recorded over old Portishead tracks) which is one of the great lost indie albums of the 00's.

I remember discovering this album, Unwound's "Leaves Turn Inside You" and Blonde Redhead's "Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons" all in the same week. That's the memory that probably most tempts me to become one of those "indie rock used to be better" guys

real talk i actually regarded this album as a big disappointment initially, i guess i wanted Believo 2 and thought that the departure of the Skeleton Key guys and the addition of Toko Yasuda was a step in a direction i wasn't interested and didn't even check out Hocus Pocus. but later on i chilled out on that view and picked up the later album and comp and regard High Society as a minor classic.

I actually haven't heard this album in a dog's age, but I have a vague memory of "Diamond Raft" reminding me of Ben Folds Five's "Battle of Who Could Care Less."

i don't even like that song

can't believe no one's mentioned "disposable parts" or "salty". the whole album is a jam but for me those two have always been elevated above the rest

going with "salty" because the chorus is the most rockingnest thing they ever did

that's totally a good thing! i knew it wouldn't inspire a ton of discussion but it's a pleasant surprise to see more than a dozen voters

i remember seeing them on the believo tour and finally giving in after getting worn down by the crowd and angrily playing 3 brainiac songs.

i always forget the skeleton key connection, man i miss that fucking band

Interesting that these results are weighed so heavily toward the back of the album. It pushes against my memory of it as a very front-loaded record

Found my old copy of this, was really enjoying it until my girlfriend hears the first track and asks if I am listening to Weezer

i dug this out @ the time of this poll and am only getting to it now -- really great. just among the songs that got zero votes i unabashedly love 'shoulder', 'in this city' & 'count sheep'

i think i wouldve voted 'diamond raft' but it's a v tough choice
