Most Mediocre Supergroup Imaginable: Novelty/Charity Records

There are good novelty records. There are bad novelty records. But which combination of musicians would produce the dullest one possible? Wombles? Wurzels? Hmm?

haha The Wurzels made one of the three records my mother ever owner (Bachelors comp and The Birdie Song, if you're interested). And my ex-wife shagged a Womble! (The drummer in the touring band, not a 'real' one, obv.)

My uncle was in a band which used to tour the West Country supporting the Wurzels, obviously this was in the days before they SOLD OUT with I've Got A Brand New Combine Harvester, so there were no hoards of moistened groupies waiting to be plied with warm scrumpy, sadly.

Anyway, the most mediocre novelty supergroup would have to feature Hale and Pace on at least one song.

i'm ashamed to say it, but when the wurzels played my uni rag week they gave one of the most entertaining shows i've ever seen. hugely enjoyed myself. absolutely no pretensions + willingness to embarrass themselves (plus oldest drummer i have ever seen who they seemingly had to nudge into life to play and then nudge to stop after a song) = better time than had during countless tedious gigs... also bizarre group of young wurzels fans dressed in tweed with deerstalkers and pipes. kept replenishing the band's cider stocks during every song. all very odd...

i'm saying the barron knights, the grumbleweeds of music and by far the ugliest men alive

the travelling wilburys. oh, wait, they were a 'real' band, weren't they?

Angelo: Surely you mean the second incarnation, after Roy (or Lefty, or Spunky or whatever his nickname was) died? 'Cos his singing on "Handle With Care" is *superb*.

second incarnation deserves a bigger bullet than the first, i grant you, but the first one was pretty lame (point taken about HWC, though). i think orb's handle was 'lefty', btw. the nicknames probably didn't help. i mean, if they wanted to be the ramones, all they had to do was...

aren't they ALL completely mediocre? itsn't the whole point of charity records is that they (supposedly) check their egos at the door and thus project none of their personality into the song?
