I really LOVE Space Oddity. is that wrong?

gospodin simmel, Sunday, 28 August 2011 11:53 (fourteen years ago)

me too. "Space Oddity" all the way.

EZ Snappin, Sunday, 28 August 2011 12:00 (fourteen years ago)

No. I wanted to vote for Ashes to Ashes but I think that's because of the awesome 80s video and the awesome spooky 80s production and the meta; not necessarily because it's a better song

FOXBS NEWS (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 28 August 2011 15:03 (fourteen years ago)

Mr. Money said more or less what I was gonna, only sooner. "Oddity" might be a better song strictly as a song-type thing. "Oddity" in concert as part of the ZIGGY STARDUST film is electrifying, but that's just moving the goalposts again, isn't it?

This thread is going to make me very sad when Peter Schilling loses.

The first time I heard Ashes to Ashes it was the version by A Perfect Circle. The original has always been such a letdown for me. Going with Schilling here.

Aalexah (kkvgz), Sunday, 28 August 2011 16:38 (fourteen years ago)

i kinda want to vote for ashes to ashes just cause of the deadpan spoken repetition of the "whoa whoaoo" line in the background

messiahwannabe, Sunday, 28 August 2011 18:03 (fourteen years ago)

but space oddity is the og, +awesome

messiahwannabe, Sunday, 28 August 2011 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

ashes to ashes > major tom >= space oddity

traumatic jarts injury hotline (Hunt3r), Saturday, 3 September 2011 17:45 (fourteen years ago)

always found theres a strong connection between Space Oddity and Jonzun Crew's 'Ground Control' (implying 'ground control' is the heavy weight)

meisenfek, Saturday, 3 September 2011 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

This song deserves a mention here:

I'm happy. Hope you're happy too.

Jonathan King did a version that combined Space Oddity and Major Tom (Coming Home).

It probably seemed a good idea on paper, but they don't really fit together and it's an awful long track.

Mark G, Monday, 5 September 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

Didn't get to vote in this, but I think I would have gone for the one that one.
Kind of puzzled how Peter Shilling manages to get so many votes up against two obvious classics.

Hongroe (Geir Hongro), Monday, 5 September 2011 11:50 (fourteen years ago)

"Major Tom (Völlig Losgelöst)" is an obvious classic in my book, dude. One of the pillars on which my world of chart pop in '81-'82 was build, together with the likes of PhD, OMD etc.
Having said that, "Ashes to Ashes" has always felt out-of-this-world and therefore I consider it the correct winner.

willem, Monday, 5 September 2011 13:01 (fourteen years ago)

this is what ENBB says and is also how I feel:

Geir out of his mind and Willem OTM. This is an outrage!! I can't believe you ppl. Major Tom (Völlig Losgelöst) FOR EVA. The correct answer is Major Tom > Ashes to Ashes > Space Oddity. Peace.

Thread is only making me slightly sad, because at least Peter Schilling made it to double figures, which I was not entirely expecting (even though it is brilliant and the best thing here, of course)
