flopson, Sunday, 4 September 2011 01:28 (fourteen years ago)

Slits six ways to Sunday. It helps that it's a better song to begin with.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Sunday, 4 September 2011 01:57 (fourteen years ago)

slits not only my favorite slits performance but one of my 20 favorite tracks of all time, period. raincoats is fun and charming but not really in the same class as the original.

I voted Raincoats, their version is something other than a cover.

Die, Foghat, Die (Mount Cleaners), Sunday, 4 September 2011 09:47 (fourteen years ago)

Slits - just such a big song. You can dance like fuckery to it. One of my favourite covers of any song I think. HEARD IT THROUGH THE BASSLINE - 'course you did , you can't ignore that freaking bassline!

It was a Thursday night. I was working late... (dog latin), Monday, 5 September 2011 10:05 (fourteen years ago)

Slits cover has lesbian undertow.

New poll! I wonder if there are any others... need to think about that. Slits by a country mile.

Sex Droughts and Rock & Roll (flopson), Tuesday, 6 September 2011 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

They're both marvellous, but I'd go with the Slits, as its more of a reinvention. I love the way Ari puts unexpected intervals into the melody. Also sounds like they're singing "heard it through the bassline" at times.

Dr X O'Skeleton, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 18:14 (fourteen years ago)

They are

Number None, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 18:17 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, the intro to "Grapevine," with the girls singing the bassline, the super-processed reggae drumroll, the trebly guitar scratch, and Ari's "I bet... I bet... I bet..." all simply great great great.

did ppl talk about how it's just ari up plus studio dudes on grapevine??? it's a ruling version, but so far from the CUT style of things, it kind of feels like not the slits

69, Monday, 12 September 2011 23:05 (fourteen years ago)

Did ppl talk about how both the options in this poll are The Raincoats?

Number None, Monday, 12 September 2011 23:07 (fourteen years ago)

no one talked about either of those things

hank azari & iii (flopson), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 02:05 (fourteen years ago)

Is this true? I've never heard of this before.

AI Jardine (Tom D.), Thursday, 4 September 2025 09:21 (one month ago)

I hadn't heard this before either. wikipedia says Max "Maxi" Edwards played drums on it, but doesn't mention any other additional musicians

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 4 September 2025 10:17 (one month ago)

dug the CD out and the liner notes say the same thing, drummer Budgie except that song

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 4 September 2025 10:21 (one month ago)

It's not like Viv and Tessa couldn't handle the instrumental parts ... also it sounds exactly like the Slits!
