Inspired by Jaxon's comment on Mark Murphy, "the wife commented that she thought he was ripping off leon thomas and i said i'm really into these dudes that try to sing like sinatra, but over hip/funky 70s stuff. she thought it sounded hella strange but makes total sense."
Here's a few Jazz guys going hip

Maybe Mose Allison and Ken Nordine, but maybe those guys are too beat/mod jazz. I think Mark Murphy has the perfect voice for this sound. Any other hip jazz vocalist?

i've started similar threads

folk, jazzy, slightly funky, sorta smoothed out Singer Songwriter stuff (sort of a post Steely Dan thread)

Buddy Rich's The Beat Goes On.
I think that's his daughter singing. Sort of hip, sort of twee.

Albert Ayler's Heart Love is also sort of a hip/twee jazzy affair.

friend was over at my house the other night and asked me if i'd heard of Flip Nuñez and i told him he was high on my want list, but it was a really expensive record. he told me flip was his god father.

he also told me his god mother (no relation to flip) was one of the 5 sisters in the george duke produced The Third Wave (now sound bossa jazz on mps) another one on my want list.
