Nostalgia and nerdery is bringing me to this place more and more.

• Obviously the seven Directors Label ones are classic beyond classic
• Michael Jackson's Vision is awesomely complete, which is great because he's the greatest music video artist who ever lived. Missing the full version of Ghosts, but WGAS
• Devo one is basically the laserdisc moved to a DVD, but essential nonetheless
• Madonna one is supposedly all full of VHS warp and like the edited-for-TV version of "Justify My Love" and all sorts of problems

The Beatles dropped the ball on the DVD of "Magical Mystery Tour", the release of which was handed off to a third party and results in the choppy, extras-less DVD you can currently buy. The VHS version from the 90s is way better.

Let It Be, of course, has never come out.

Oddly, there is no official Beatles music video DVD, which is pretty silly considering they made music videos and promotional appearances for just about every one of their singles, and could have issued an accompanying DVD alongside their "1" collection.

Then again, Apple is run by complete idiots.

Where is the Stones DVD? I'd take 25 x 5 fer chrissakes!

Also, putting the Talking Heads videography on a DVD that only comes with the box set is a total dick move.

^^^ It is. I've never really understood the justification for that type of thing. Like, tossing a bone to the more casual fans with a standalone DVD seems like a sure way to make even more money off the thing.

And Michel Gondry's "2" DVD isn't the all-time classic his Directors Label disc was, but it's got some good stuff and it's easy to find cheap.

Also, the Chili Peppers Greatest Videos literally excludes two of their greatest videos: Sednaoui's gorgeous "Breaking The Girl" and the unbelievable Anton Corbijn version of "My Friends."

My favorite music video DVD is the Sonic Youth Corporate Ghost: Videos 1990-2002. Tons of great shit on there.

the Pet Shop Boys videos DVD is amazing - super-thick book with info and images and whatnot, the DVD can be programmed to play in any order (or play reverse-chronologically with one click), has 12" versions of three videos, and wonderful, archly in-character commentary on everything.

as a side note, with every concert or doco or whatever DVD they've released since this one, they always quietly add whatever new clips they've done since as bonus features

one great thing about Corporate Ghost is the obliqueish non-band-member commentaries

Can't believe there was a time where I didn't wanna sit through November Rain for the bazillionth time. Now I want to watch it in my spare hours. I guess this is my version if grown adults buying the Urkel or Full House box sets or something. Dag. Smh @ me.

Of no interest to non-Australians, but TISM’s one has to be the most ridic value ever: having signed a one-off label deal for their previous album and a catalogue reissue, by 2004 they saw the impending tits-up-ness of the record industry on the wall, and signed with an anime DVD distributor for their next, which came as box set with three discs: 1) a full concert film, staged as a telethon with the premise that the band will split up if a million bucks is not pledged by the end of the show; 2) an all-new studio album; and 3) a DVD collecting all their videos to date*, live footage from various gigs 1981-2002, TV appearances, other bits & bobs, and a largely pisstaking documentary on the history of the band.

*though they accidentally had a hit in Germany with a song off the album, after a crowdsourced make-a-video contest winner went viral, so their widest-seen clip ever isn’t actually on it.

the david bowie singles collection 2dvd is fantastic. some extras and some hidden stuff. all quality, all the time, etc.
