Yeah, I know it's been talked about in whatever the hell that one thread is, but it really deserves to be singled out on its own. It's that damn good. Stands out as the highlight of any mix I've heard it in.

I think the really key thing is the contrast between Sway's ambivalence and Maclean's chipper chorus. Also, I really appreciate how the current wave of garage revivalism has managed to fold everything that's come in its wake back into itself. Bassline especially!

THIS IS 4 THE BUBBL-AH: traktor (mike delinquent remix) vs dangerous (mr v remix)

Thanks for reminding me about this!

Yeah, that's that one thread.
― swagliacci (The Reverend), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 07:52 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah this tune keeps on switching up the groove with admirable aplomb.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 08:48 (thirteen years ago)
Although in truth i'm not sure that there's anything in this particular tune that couldn't have been beamed straight from 2000. OTOH the wideboys make bassline too so the resemblance probably isn't accidental.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 09:11 (thirteen years ago)
yeah that's been on my mind recently somewhat - as the ukg revival has happily reified and all the old chaps have dutifully come back out of their burrows (tuff jam, club asylum) it's slowly become harder to discern - recall even - what the interesting intersecting point was; the remit of that bubblah thread has felt more precarious, swaddled in a sense of distrustworthy nostalgic comfort - ukg as this childhood treehouse that everyone cyclically goes back to have a transitional think in.
i know no one gives a rat's ass about non-grime UK garage nowadays, but...
like haha i know this thread exists but i havent dared reread it for fear of uncomf truths.
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 09:49 (thirteen years ago)
bassline too, as if startled by the background kitchen sink things it's always held dear coming back into sudden trendy plenitude, seems to have shrunk away lately. will return right as rain like nothing had ever happened when this has passed of course, but it's perturbing still.
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 09:52 (thirteen years ago)
"critically" speaking i suppose this stuff generally gets so little care and attention paid to it that it's near impossible for any revanchist distortion not to occur either way

I just realized that of all the British posters on ILX, rtc is the only one whose posts I read in a comedy British accent.

it must be said one sometimes fails to resist the temptation to read tim's posts in a comedy aussie accent.
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 11:52 (thirteen years ago)
Need to stop referring to the wideboys as drongos.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 12:09 (thirteen years ago)
I wasn't aware of this thread at all at the time!

I swear this is the same song I wrote for my band in college, "When We Go Shopping", except that was mock-country/bluegrass instead of hip-hop. But I still like it.

Fuck Sway is such a good rapper. This Is My Demo is still amazing. Why the fuck is Tinie Tempah bigger than he is. Grumble.

the second verse is a marvel
she's got so many clothes if we put them on the floor in a line we could reach swedenif we put them on the floor in a line, including the ones she bought online, including her make-up and all of her beauty products, we could circle the world one time
― lex pretend, Thursday, 8 September 2011 10:13 (thirteen years ago)
the pacing of that reminds me of a specific contemporary poet and i can't bloody remember who
Why the fuck is Tinie Tempah bigger than he is.
to be fair sway has never come up with a monster like "pass out". hmm maybe "f ur x" actually but really it was stush who owned that song. why is stush not bigger than both!
(possibly relevant question - why have so many male UK rappers crossed over, many of really quite poor quality, EXAMPLE, but this open-door policy seems not to have been extended to our female MCs?)
(why has THIS SONG not crossed over?)
― lex pretend, Thursday, 8 September 2011 10:16 (thirteen years ago)
Because the original (that was actually released as a single) is shit.
― Tim F, Thursday, 8 September 2011 10:28 (thirteen years ago)
Well maybe not shit but no way does it compare to this remix.
ha i just realised this isn't the original
oh well, uk pop

This tune has really crept up on me as a kind of potential erm "way forward" as well being, like, a banger:
