"Twilight Zone" vs "It Takes Two"

Tal Berkowitz - Vaccine advocate (DJP), Sunday, 11 September 2011 22:11 (fourteen years ago)

plenty of great shit here but It Takes Two rules all

gospodin simmel, Sunday, 11 September 2011 22:13 (fourteen years ago)

feel like it's kind of sacrilegious to vote against "it takes two" but w/ that said i'm gonna vote for "tootsee roll"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 11 September 2011 22:13 (fourteen years ago)

"It Takes Two" almost feels like a generation removed from most of the other stuff here

some dude, Sunday, 11 September 2011 22:13 (fourteen years ago)

Very tough but went for Pump Up The Jam.

A little bit like Peter Crouch but with more mobility (ShariVari), Sunday, 11 September 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

vol. 2 >>>>>> vol. 1 imo

D-40, Sunday, 11 September 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

after much inner turmoil i'm going with "the power"

debenture banhart (get bent), Sunday, 11 September 2011 22:15 (fourteen years ago)

'pump up the jam' has aged best imo

D-40, Sunday, 11 September 2011 22:15 (fourteen years ago)

you can still drop that & its powerz work w/out sounding overly reliant on its retro-ness

D-40, Sunday, 11 September 2011 22:15 (fourteen years ago)

God, now that polling's been around for as long as it takes to get through high school, it's good to revisit these questions to see where we really stand. To see if those "classics" still hold up!

JOCK JAMS POLL, volume one

kkvgz, Sunday, 11 September 2011 22:58 (fourteen years ago)

ha yah i thought we did this before

D-40, Sunday, 11 September 2011 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

Voted for "Come Baby Come", btw.

kkvgz, Sunday, 11 September 2011 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

Can't believe there's no love for "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)". It's the highest form of the dancefloor 'order' to dance.

owenf, Sunday, 11 September 2011 23:04 (fourteen years ago)

Tootsee Roll forever

skip, Sunday, 11 September 2011 23:06 (fourteen years ago)

i'm into C&C

debenture banhart (get bent), Monday, 12 September 2011 00:47 (fourteen years ago)

Apparently their complete chart history in the US is:

"Get Ready For This": #38
"Twilight Zone: #49

??!??!!?

They seemed so ubiquitous in the mid-90s.

The Reverend, Monday, 12 September 2011 00:51 (fourteen years ago)

Pump Up the Jam.

your mom the burrito (ENBB), Monday, 12 September 2011 00:52 (fourteen years ago)

black box got robbed on that other jock jams thread

"Everybody Everybody" >>>>>>>>>>> "Strike It Up"

The Reverend, Monday, 12 September 2011 00:54 (fourteen years ago)

Holy cow I forgot about both of those. Excellent.

your mom the burrito (ENBB), Monday, 12 September 2011 00:55 (fourteen years ago)

were la bouche on any of the later jock jams comps? they shoulda been.

debenture banhart (get bent), Monday, 12 September 2011 00:55 (fourteen years ago)

I don't think they were! Inexplicable, really.

it's on vol 2. relax.

billstevejim, Monday, 12 September 2011 02:09 (fourteen years ago)

"it takes two" will win this but i don't get why it's the best.

billstevejim, Monday, 12 September 2011 02:31 (fourteen years ago)

Get your booty on the poll tonight.

_Rudipherous_, Monday, 12 September 2011 03:03 (fourteen years ago)

does vol 2 have "c'mon ride the train on it"? cuz that's the undisputed #1 jock jam of all time

J0rdan S., Monday, 12 September 2011 03:16 (fourteen years ago)

Gonna vote C&C cos they are hilarious and I remember getting a cassette of their first record in the mail, I don't remember how. I think it had the Coca Cola logo on it, so maybe it was from when I went to the Coca Cola museum as a kid and I entered some random sweepstakes or something. I don't know. Also, these are actual lyrics

It's your world and I'm just a squirrel
Trying to get a nut to move your butt

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 12 September 2011 03:56 (fourteen years ago)

C+C can and should rank highly because of merit, not nostalgia.

Pee Wee Hermeneutician (EDB), Monday, 12 September 2011 04:32 (fourteen years ago)

where is the love for . . . 'uh, ungawaa'

mookieproof, Monday, 12 September 2011 06:23 (fourteen years ago)

PUMP up the JAM, pump it up

teledyldonix, Monday, 12 September 2011 07:02 (fourteen years ago)

I heard Pump Up The Jam for the first time in years about 2 months ago and I was kinda shocked at how much I loved the production.. it sounds so warm and analog for a techno/disco track with so much obvious digital instrumentation.

billstevejim, Monday, 12 September 2011 07:06 (fourteen years ago)

does vol 2 have "c'mon ride the train on it"? cuz that's the undisputed #1 jock jam of all time

― J0rdan S., Monday, 12 September 2011 03:16 (4 hours ago)

It's on Vol 3, and agree ... though for V1 (which was one of the four CDs at my old workplace) Tag Team's "Whoomp! (There It Is)" is pretty close behind and was robbed on the previous poll.

etc, Monday, 12 September 2011 07:28 (fourteen years ago)

tootsee roll

Battlestar Gracián (crüt), Monday, 12 September 2011 07:31 (fourteen years ago)

YMCA is really the weakest Village People hit, isn't it?

Battlestar Gracián (crüt), Monday, 12 September 2011 07:32 (fourteen years ago)

went C&C but this is harrrd

all the small zings (history mayne), Monday, 12 September 2011 07:47 (fourteen years ago)

from what i can see, 'ride on time' did less business in the US than 'strike it up' or 'everybody everybody' which is the reverse of the case here

themoreyouknow.jpg

all the small zings (history mayne), Monday, 12 September 2011 07:51 (fourteen years ago)

I think I voted "Get Ready For This" last time. Still feel the same way. Sorry, but no other song ever can make you go from zero to pumped like that.

naus, Monday, 12 September 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

K7 - "Come Baby Come"

Yo wait a minute man, you better think about the world (dog latin), Monday, 12 September 2011 11:40 (fourteen years ago)

I think I voted "Get Ready For This" last time. Still feel the same way. Sorry, but no other song ever can make you go from zero to pumped like that.

except of course for every single song on this poll

Tal Berkowitz - Vaccine advocate (DJP), Monday, 12 September 2011 12:34 (fourteen years ago)

The absence of "Techno Syndrome (Mortal Kombat)" from these comps is egregious.

kkvgz, Monday, 12 September 2011 12:47 (fourteen years ago)

But surely "Twilight Zone" covers that.

Pee Wee Hermeneutician (EDB), Monday, 12 September 2011 12:58 (fourteen years ago)

I'm just thinking in terms of prevalence at high school pep rallies 1994-1996, but yeah, they pretty much cover the same ground.

some lady (La Lechera), Monday, 12 September 2011 13:13 (fourteen years ago)

Glad someone else gave a shoutout to "C'mon N' Ride It (The Train)", which has to be one of the more awkwardly titled tracks in a genre with lots of awkwardly titled tracks

skip, Monday, 12 September 2011 13:48 (fourteen years ago)

My friend and I used to call it "Homoerotic Train"

some lady (La Lechera), Monday, 12 September 2011 13:52 (fourteen years ago)

voted for c&c, m/a/r/r/s a close second

it's time for the purpculator (psychgawsple), Monday, 12 September 2011 14:53 (fourteen years ago)

Mortal Kombat definitely should have been on here. I was in high school at the time and yes it was used at pep rallys.

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 12 September 2011 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

it takes two aged better than pump up the jam imo

Um, I have to go with M/A/R/R/S/, if for no other reason than the completely ridiculous punctuation (and a bassline I played incessantly on cheap-o Casio synths in my youf).
