following a previous thread about horrible one hit wonders bubblegum flamenco pop Las Ketchup, i wondered if anyone on this board is familiar with one of the best bands to come out of the Spanish scene ever?

No... however, I've been to the actual town twice. It is Dud.

Dud.

Ha ha! Just kidding. What little I've heard from the Le Mans of which you speak, I've been enamored with.

awww, gawwwd!!
that was a classic record cover! i must show that one on the le mans message board, and start watching the indie kids throwing out!
good to know there's someone who likes ana d as well. american posters can check her wonderful solo album out on grimsey records (le mans released their records via grimsey in the states as well). ibon errazkin was le mans leader, and btw he's currently recording his second solo album.

Now I'm going nuts trying to remember the name of one of their songs the local college station used to play fairly often in '98 or '99. It was an instrumental and was fairly midtempo and chillout and subtly horn-driven, though it may not even be them. HELP ME IDENTIFY SONG PLS!!!

I've heard a few mp3s which I really enjoyed from "Aqui.." I think the vocalist sounds Stereolab-ish, but the sounds are more acoustic and loungy. However, I've never ever seen the CD in any shop in California. Maybe I'll see if Amazon has it.

are they the ones who used to be aventuras de kirlian ? if so, irredeemably, irradescently, irresponsibly ACE.

I don't like Le Mans much at all. Having collected 98% of the singles on Elefant I've heard a fair bit of their stuff and find it really underwhelming. The Grimsey 7" is pleasant enough I suppose.

I heard some Ibon Errazkin solo stuff and my god it was shithouse.

classic, aqui vivia yo is marvelous and so is entresemana(or whatever?) but they are not nearly as classic as la buena vida who are more classic than any other classic spanish band.

nate, that must be "jonathan jeremiah", or the horn-driven instrumental version of "mi novela autobiografica" (backing the vocal version on the 7" taken from the "aqui vivia yo" album).
and yes, they were previously called aventuras de kirlian: they started from young marble giants and marine girls to end up in stereolab, but different (and better?).

absolutely great band. If you like them get the La Buena Vida albums as well on Siesta

Joan, having read another thread I note you were in Dirty Boots and Patrullero Mancuso - I've got each band's 7" on Elefant and they're great.. altho' my DB single is pressed off-centre :(

JIM! you made my day... :-)
i'll send you a new copy of the db single if you want. but i can't make sure this one will be perfect (blame spanish pressing plants! we didn't know about gz back then...).

one year passes...
My Spanish ex likes the music but she says the lyrics are an almost comical lament. She listened for 15 minutes of the album and was like "Oh brother!"

Zola are great, they sound kinda like Le Mans. The best band from Spain is surely La Casa Azul - what are they singing about? They mention Barry White, Ben Folds Five, Stereolab and Billy Joel in their songs on their latest album.

Are there any Spnish groups I need to hear?
