I want Austra to win (topped both my ballots), but I think it'll be Stetson.

A. Begrand, Monday, 19 September 2011 00:40 (fourteen years ago)

I'm guessing its either gonna be Stetson or the Weeknd (the latter of whom I voted for here).

jer.fairall, Monday, 19 September 2011 00:41 (fourteen years ago)

That Stetson is unlistenable, in my opinion.

Kaputt topped both my ballots, and I still think it's the best thing here.

Anything but The Suburbs.

I can't go to the gala and I'm disappointed, I would've love to watch Damian as host.

Somehow didn't see that coming.

is it really that much less boring than if anything else shortlisted had won, though? seems to me the tamest year yet

flopson, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 03:57 (fourteen years ago)

betting on Stetson too.

Simon H., Tuesday, 20 September 2011 04:45 (fourteen years ago)

WHO THE FUCK IS ARCADE FIRE

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 04:49 (fourteen years ago)

*sigh* I guess there was an air of inevitability about that, wasn't there?

Sean Carruthers, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 12:13 (fourteen years ago)

I also think that the Polaris has been much stronger than the Mercury's in terms of winners and candidates over the last few years.

At least 50% of this list is the most boring Pitchfork critical consensus indie imaginable so I find it hard to believe anyone could get that worked up over Arcade Fire winning over Destroyer or The Weeknd or whoever.

The other 50% could be amazing and groundbreaking for all I know, admittedly.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 12:35 (fourteen years ago)

Galaxie - Tigre et diesel
Hey Rosetta! - Seeds
Ron Sexsmith - Long Player Late Bloomer
Colin Stetson - New History of Warfare Vol. 2: Judges
Timber Timbre - Creep On Creepin' On

pretty sure these are all titles from a dog latin parody post

The Stetson album is pretty fantastic, but I don't think it really ever had a chance to win this thing.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 14:20 (fourteen years ago)

It was a contentious choice, as Stetson is an American based in Montreal. (Compare to Caribou, a Canadian based in England)

fear itself (Ówen P.), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 14:57 (fourteen years ago)

Just heard Austra for the first time last night, after having seen an early version of them in a tiny divey bar in Chicago two or so years ago. Really like 'em.

Mares of Thrace and Shooting Guns in a Canadian indie metal shocker. Fully deserving, I couldn't be happier for both bands.

Overall I'd say this is the strongest Polaris long list in its seven year history. Really hard to pick a front-runner, let alone ten for the short list.

A. Begrand, Friday, 15 June 2012 02:47 (thirteen years ago)

I Imaginary voted for Drake, John k. Samson, Fucked Up, Joel Plaskett and Emm Gryner and was happy to see all but the one I knew stood no chance make the list.

Also surprised/happy abt Cannon Bros. That's a good record that I didn't know anyone knew about.
