The video for the single is one of the most hilariously terrible things I have ever seen. You haven't lived until you've you've seen Mick hollering lasciviously in his ridiculous pink suit.

I like how he makes Joss Stone appear tasteful and restrained by comparison.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 09:44 (fourteen years ago)

such a shame we already have a clusterfuck to cover

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 09:44 (fourteen years ago)

"We've got the ingredients to uplift your musical experience," Marley says as he toasts on Energy, which almost evokes Get Off of My Cloud in its chorus - a strategic mistake that only makes the newer song look worse. In the same track, Marley refers to the group as a "cultural one-stop shop."

my loving laser will regenerate your heart

it kinda just gives up after a minute and a half and settles into trying to be a memorably hummable springtime detergent/apple juice commercial

347.239.9791 stench hotline (schlump), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 23:22 (fourteen years ago)

saw this on rhapsody this am and thought 'what the hell' only made it thru four tracks and the first minute of "Satyameva Jayate"

i wish this was a little worse actually cause it's not quite head-smacking BAD enough to be campy, just boring and absolutely pointless.

why does the guy even bother

excuse me you're a helluva guy (m coleman), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 23:24 (fourteen years ago)

i wish this was a little worse actually cause it's not quite head-smacking BAD enough to be campy

yeah i think that's true; what's hilarious/worthy of mocking is the various modes they're playing around with in the video, joss stone as local grocer, dave stewart as compulsive tattoo addict, mick jagger as the pink panther &c. but the music is bland & its genre-fusion only really an aside to its generic breezy melodies.

347.239.9791 stench hotline (schlump), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 23:28 (fourteen years ago)

was gonna say earlier, that one track is fairly pleasant. Mick has been fucking hilarious-looking since at least 1974.

Louis Jaha (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 23:41 (fourteen years ago)

some of you will be lucky to make it to mick jagger's age, let alone be dancing in a pink suit with joss stone and bob marley's son at that age

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 03:44 (fourteen years ago)

ha i was asked to review this record and had to decline

i couldn't even make it through the first song on the album

geeta, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

I'm wondering whether Damon Albarn is looking at that video and seeing himself in 20 years' time.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 16:31 (fourteen years ago)

Dear Dave Stewart, you honey-glazed, slow-roasted git. You blew it. This project should have been:

Robert Plant
Femi Kuti
Sinead O'Connor
Vijaya Anand

....yeah, i know right. Better luck next time.....

m0stlyClean, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:57 (fourteen years ago)

Hell. Even:

Ozzy
Prince Buster
PJ Harvey
Malkit Singh

...would have at least yielded more interesting results.....

m0stlyClean, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:59 (fourteen years ago)

lol Mick looks like he's rotting.

geeta, Thursday, 22 September 2011 07:46 (fourteen years ago)

i still think this is a funner, more entertaining thing for Jagger to do than the roots shtick that lots of Rock Legends of a Certain Age plop out, and i still think that most of the jibes about the horrible misguided campness of this cd be applied to most of his career, if you wanted to miss the point.

Louis Jaha (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 22 September 2011 07:50 (fourteen years ago)

Mick Jagger deviates from his Rolling Stones sound for his music with new group SuperHeavy, the band he formed with Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, Damian Marley, and A. R. Rahman. He even tries rapping, he says in a new interview with the Associated Press.

"I was just copying Damian. I do a little bit," Jagger says. "I went toasting, we call it, but it is the same thing [as rap]. Damian was doing this really good toasting, West Indian rapping, so I thought, "I could do that. It can't be that difficult." It actually was quite difficult. With a bit of practice, it is all right. It is a laugh."

bunnistula (buzza), Friday, 23 September 2011 03:02 (fourteen years ago)

this band would have been way better (and funnier) if they had swapped in Keith Richards for Mick Jagger and Bappi Lahiri for A.R. Rahman

who's with me

I agree Superheavy’s first album is very high quality and soulful, and hope it will gather momentum the way Exile on Main Street did.
