Getting pumped up to see them, or prefer to wait until showtime?

Sometimes I like to pick one record to listen to to get pumped. But never a complete discography or something.

major dud. sometimes it makes me realize how much i don't actually like this band, and makes me less enthused for the performance

and then i spend all my time wishing i was listening to the-recently-inscribed-in-my-head studio version

i'm kind of a negative little shit when it comes to concerts

Driving down the freeway trying to explain the lyrics of "E.T.I" to my wife on the way to see Blue Oyster Cult.

Have great memories of going to arena rock shows in hs in the 80s and listening to Cleveland AOR giant WMMS play the artists' material for about 90 minutes pre-show. Don't do it so much anymore,

A friends big brother would cut together - the next day - a cassette of the bands set-list to relive the emotional arc of the nights track choices I guess.

Anyone find after they've seen a live show that they don't really fell like listening to the album for a good while after, even if they enjoyed the show?

I get this all the time. It's as though in watching the band play live, I've received a concentrated dose and don't really need to supplement this by listening to them again at home. I've actually stopped listening to some acts entirely after seeing live shows. See also - drum'n'bass after attending Ministry of Sound relatively sober a couple of years back.. After 8 hours I'd had as much d'n'b in my life as I felt I needed and haven't really felt the need to check any more out since.

this happens to me all the time, even when the shows were "great." weird. so every live show becomes an opportunity for taking a band i like off my list. it's complicated.

Seems like I haven't been to a concert all year.
Oh well, I've seen enough shows.

I'll sometimes do this to better preserve the memory of the show. When I saw Husker Du in 1987 I was so blown away that I didn't listen to Warehouse for months; I wanted my memory of those songs to be the live versions I heard (which were better than the studio versions anyway).

I don't really have a strong opinion about this but people who consider this a dud are pretty vehement about it. I remember in high school and college driving to see a festival somewhere and throwing in a CD by one of the bands playing and being immediately shut down by someone. "I NEVER do that. HOW COULD YOU? YOU'LL RUIN IT." etc. Also god forbid you mention checking out set lists of a band's current tour before going to the show.
