Perhaps the Lips spent a lot of time at the Ocropolis?

grandavis, Friday, 23 September 2011 20:31 (fourteen years ago)

best thing they've done in 20 years!

I AM THE CROOT (crüt), Friday, 23 September 2011 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

Without doing any googling, reading, or any nonsense other than listening, it sounds literally like Bobby is sitting in with the Lips, or some shit like that. But yeah, it's good so far.

grandavis, Friday, 23 September 2011 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

Didn't this happen already?

No wait, that was Cornershop.

billstevejim, Friday, 23 September 2011 20:52 (fourteen years ago)

dang, scott otm -- this is really pretty great, 10 minutes in! gonna stop now and save the whole thing for the next time I have to work a boring Sunday shift.

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 24 September 2011 00:08 (fourteen years ago)

i had enough after about three minutes. it sounds like music by a robot who has been drinking too much coffee. i am not sure if i should pity or if i should admire people who can listen to this for six hours.

alex in mainhattan, Saturday, 24 September 2011 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

"best thing they've done in 20 years"

did you listen to it all?

nostormo, Saturday, 24 September 2011 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

Pink Floyd's Piper meets Krautrock?
sounds good.
waiting for the who will cut the 6 hours into proper "songs"

nostormo, Saturday, 24 September 2011 17:47 (fourteen years ago)

i made it 23 minutes. the irritating background effect got to me

reggie (qualmsley), Saturday, 24 September 2011 17:49 (fourteen years ago)

"we will always love you"

nostormo, Saturday, 24 September 2011 17:51 (fourteen years ago)

I keep forgetting that I'm listening to this

iatee, Saturday, 24 September 2011 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

I am apparently 47 minutes in

iatee, Saturday, 24 September 2011 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

This is the one where people could pay to have their name in the lyrics, right? At some point Wayne presumably starts singing people's names. It cost a $100 donation to the Oklahoma Humane Society.

I really liked the Neon Indian & Lightning Bolt & Flying Lotus collaborations - I think they have a lot of good music left in them, for sure.

She Got the Shakes, Saturday, 24 September 2011 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

I think I made the last one up.

She Got the Shakes, Saturday, 24 September 2011 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

Been playing this non stop since Wednesday night and it just gets worse. Stopping now as just been sectioned. Bye

Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Saturday, 24 September 2011 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

Nick Cave should counter with a six-hour "Babe, I'm On Fire."

Corn Maze to the Dark Side (Eazy), Saturday, 24 September 2011 21:48 (fourteen years ago)

i actually like this a lot but who knows if i'll get to the end

mutant slow drum (BradNelson), Saturday, 24 September 2011 21:56 (fourteen years ago)

Anybody heard Dangermouses's 52 hour 14 minute ' grey' mix?

I haven't yet either but can't wait

Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Saturday, 24 September 2011 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

46 minutes in... def think this is some of the best stuff they've done in a while

Chris S, Sunday, 25 September 2011 01:09 (fourteen years ago)

To heck with that six hour song.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 30 September 2011 16:40 (fourteen years ago)

I have loved, loved, loved everything the Lips have done Embryonic and onwards, and this year's constant stream of stuff has been a huge treat. I don't know if I'll ever buy another CD but I definitely would buy some weird gummy skull or flashing light toy or whatever. Christmas is gonna be rad.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 30 September 2011 16:47 (fourteen years ago)

Also, this is amazing

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 30 September 2011 16:48 (fourteen years ago)

i actually made it through the whole thing and it's pretty consistently awesome. sort of transitions from funky to more traditionally kraut-rocky to vangelis-esque variations on the same groove. and the final 30 minutes are an entirely different riff which is pretty sabbath-y

mutant slow drum (BradNelson), Friday, 30 September 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

I'm going to probably try to listen to this 6-hour song at some point, but, tbh, all this gimmicky shit is making me fast lose interest in these guys. I absolutely loved Embryonic and am thrilled about their recent direction, but how about releasing some music we don't have to jump through ridiculous hoops and/or pay ridiculous sums of money to hear? (NB - I realize there are other ways of hearing many of these) Just give me some old-fashioned plastic or vinyl, thank you very much.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 30 September 2011 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

I'm sure that's coming too! Maybe next year or something. Certainly a compilation of the best of these collabs would be nice. Also, I'd rather get to read and see and hear all this cool stuff than just wait for a year or two before a new album gets released.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 30 September 2011 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

Oh yeah, its definitely exciting, but yeah.. I'd love some sort of compilation of this stuff!

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 30 September 2011 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

Ha, did you guys actually click that link I made in my post yet? The 6 hour song is nothing.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 30 September 2011 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

I heard about that yesterday, yeah. I'll wait to see if the thing even materializes since Coyne himself even seems to kinda doubt if it will happen.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 30 September 2011 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

three months pass...

I have made it to 2 hours in.

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 11:22 (thirteen years ago)

The first half of what I heard so far is very Silver Apples.

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 11:23 (thirteen years ago)

I recently bought a gummy fetus. I'm not going to open or eat it, but it's pretty damn weird. It really has weight to it and sort of feels like a weird creature. The day I bought it, it felt super fragile and I was very protective of it. Mainly because it was $40. But also, it's a pretty interesting tactile experience I've never had with a musical artifact before. As for the music, it's available on youtube and different websites, and Wayne has said he doesn't mind if people just spread it around for free. Mostly trippy, shapeless, synth-driven psych.

Someone asked me why I bought it. I think it's really cool all the stuff the Lips have been doing this year. The record store I bought it from is going through hard times and I haven't bought anything there since 'Embryonic', which was years ago.

I want a skull now! Ah but they're going for $150 on ebay...

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 16:42 (thirteen years ago)

Their website still has some

Although, the price is the same.

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 16:44 (thirteen years ago)

Pot-flavored gummy brain inside a skull. Is there anything cooler than that?

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 16:51 (thirteen years ago)

This is the one where people could pay to have their name in the lyrics, right? At some point Wayne presumably starts singing people's names.

more like reading out in a monotone. and that is pretty much where I stopped listening to I Found A Star ...

dmr, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:07 (thirteen years ago)

i don't think it's wayne.. its sean lennon if i remember correctly...

Talcum Mucker, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

i'm listening now and it sounds like sean lennon singing the, uh, chorus.

NZA, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 21:35 (thirteen years ago)

It's the girl from Deerhoof singing "I....found a star on the ground"

Sean Lennon eventually starts reading off the list, basically at that point it sounds like ground control talking to a space mission or something.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

Has there been any more word on them officially releasing a compilation of all those collabs they've been working on lately with like Lightning Bolt and Neon Indian? I know they mentioned working on another collaborative album, but that sounded like new stuff.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

Done three hours now.

nostormo, Wednesday, 12 December 2012 16:53 (thirteen years ago)

For real. I voted for it in P&J last year; I was the only one.

Raymond Cummings, Wednesday, 12 December 2012 17:18 (thirteen years ago)
