Everyone will vote for Joy Division, so I went for "The Earth Dies Screaming" instead. :)

Hongroe (Geir Hongro), Thursday, 29 September 2011 09:23 (fourteen years ago)

Spotify playlist here (but Crass and Motorhead are missing):

Not even one US hit on this list. Cool!

Lee452 (Lee626), Thursday, 29 September 2011 09:32 (fourteen years ago)

Predictably enough Atmosphere but always nice to be reminded that UB40 were brilliant for a year or two.

Science, you guys. Science. (DL), Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:02 (fourteen years ago)

OH IT'S SO TRUE !!!

Mark G, Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:03 (fourteen years ago)

Their songs here are definitely as gloomy as anything else on the list.

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:07 (fourteen years ago)

True. "The Earth Dies Screaming", thanks for that guys. Requiem vs. Atmosphere for me.

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:12 (fourteen years ago)

I love the shift in tone in the titles of the last four songs. Kill the Poor! The Earth Dies Screaming! Then switch to beer and cars.

Science, you guys. Science. (DL), Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:39 (fourteen years ago)

Paranoid.

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:40 (fourteen years ago)

Although what was Paranoid doing there in 1980?

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:42 (fourteen years ago)

KILLING JOKE!

ethanol crops (not to mention arugula) for the green aristocracy (crüt), Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:43 (fourteen years ago)

Although what was Paranoid doing there in 1980?

Got re-released, dunno why. Was this song popular with punk types (like perhaps Motorhead were?) or was it strictly NWOBHM types buying it?

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:51 (fourteen years ago)

Song's pretty punky

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:53 (fourteen years ago)

... so much so that Slaughter + the Dogs rewrote it as "Cranked Up Really High"

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:55 (fourteen years ago)

Food For Thought! Love that song.

Yo wait a minute man, you better think about the world (dog latin), Thursday, 29 September 2011 10:56 (fourteen years ago)

This DK's song is garbage. Have always thought of Jello Biafra as a pretty good bloke, but jeez his music can be hard to listen to.

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2011 11:00 (fourteen years ago)

Was their next single a case of "We're off this label after this one" ?

Mark G, Thursday, 29 September 2011 11:01 (fourteen years ago)

"Can't Cheat Karma" is the only sensible choice here people.

Night Nurse with Wound (Jack Battery-Pack), Thursday, 29 September 2011 11:10 (fourteen years ago)

^ only heard that for the first time today and it's great!

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2011 11:12 (fourteen years ago)

Never heard of it. I know anarcho-punk was big at the time but I'm surprised Zounds ever had a No. 1 single in any chart. Not that I've ever heard them!

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Thursday, 29 September 2011 11:19 (fourteen years ago)

It's good. Was expecting it to be a bit like UK Decay or someone, but it's more of a forerunner to Ron Johnson-style indie, kind of like the Ex.

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2011 11:32 (fourteen years ago)

12" version of Earth Dies Screaming is A+, nice and dubby.

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2011 11:35 (fourteen years ago)

I bought four of these at the time: Where's Captain Kirk, Bloody Revolutions, Atmosphere and Cartrouble. Still love 'em all dearly, but today I feel compelled to vote for Bloody Revolutions, which is probably my favourite Crass track ever.

Man, your ears are made of much stronger stuff than mine.

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2011 12:02 (fourteen years ago)

Like wood or something.

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2011 12:02 (fourteen years ago)

I'm almost with Geir here but imo "Food for Thought" plus "King" is unfuckingdeniable and tho it pains me not to vote Crass or Spizz it's not a contest for me.

Now gonna listen to Signing Off for a couple of hours and anticipate Bastard Joy Division© walking this on the imaginationless gothlurk vote.

Dios mio! This kid is FUN to hit! (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 29 September 2011 12:07 (fourteen years ago)

wtf Kill The Poor is great, is it his vocal "style" that puts you off or something?

Voted Zounds tho.

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 29 September 2011 12:13 (fourteen years ago)

Enjoying the YouTube comments underneath "Bloody Revolution", which are all GO BACK AND READ YOUR KROPOTKIN etc etc etc... the debate rages on!
