electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 02:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Why helloooo dsico!

lance lockarm, Tuesday, 10 September 2002 02:21 (twenty-three years ago)

US basketball lost to someone?? When did this unforseen and lamentable event occur? If we don't have basketball hegemony, what do we have??

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 02:25 (twenty-three years ago)

This past weekend; they had too many Celtics on the team.

James Blount, Tuesday, 10 September 2002 03:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I had possibly my first ever conversation about basketball the other day, in which I was told that no, the US doesn't always win every game it plays at basketball. Unbelievable! I thought they were utterly invincible! The Harlem bloody Globetrotters, for fuck's sake! How long has this been going on?

Daniel (dancity), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 12:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Just this past weekend and in '88 (although that all-amateur team did better than these scrubs). We're a long way from Barcelona.

James Blount, Tuesday, 10 September 2002 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

And it should be noted that this team was in no way comprised of the best American players in the NBA. No Shaq. No Kobe. No Iverson.

James Blount, Tuesday, 10 September 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

it's fantastic that they lost. it was better when the USA used to win with amateurs anyhow. of course calling college basketball players amateurs is funny, maurice taylor was counciled against going pro early by some in the media cause he may have to take a pay cut were he drafted too low.

keith, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 02:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Hah! That's for daring to be good at soccer (only us third world countries should be allowed to win at that.) What goes around comes around..

Daniel_Rf, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Donny Osmond = USSR?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

It should also be noted that not having Shaq and Kobe is no excuse. Those players were on vacation, and other than having to read about it, probably lost no sleep over losing.

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Paul Pierce = King Chump.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan, you know that Rick Pitino is now and forever King Chump.

James Blount, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, blame the only guy on the team that bothered playing. That works.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 18:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Rick Pitino was playing? That explains why we lost.

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 18:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I blame Paul Pierce because he is a Celtic and post-Bird/Parish Celtics suck.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 18:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope the NBA adopts the super wide key, brings in the three point line, and gets rid of that stupid "no-charge" circle like they do in international basketball -- they need to Shaq-proof the game to make it interesting. Even a bunch of balding, not-fit-for-rugby-looking New Zealanders were holding their own in this tournament.

Kris (aqueduct), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 19:24 (twenty-three years ago)

hm i bet michael jackson is also crap at basketball

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 19:42 (twenty-three years ago)

DO YOU SEE!!!

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 19:42 (twenty-three years ago)

"post-Bird/Parish Celtics suck" - with the exception of Dominique Wilkins.

James Blount, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 19:58 (twenty-three years ago)

US ranked 6th in the basketball world, NZ 4th. So US b-ball = rated lower than their talent deserves, though maybe not lower than their humanity deserves = M. Jackson. NZ = Wilco.

B:Rad (Brad), Friday, 13 September 2002 01:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Remember that time Michael Jackson jammed with Michael Jordan? That was so hot.

A.V. Alexandre (Keiko), Friday, 13 September 2002 01:49 (twenty-three years ago)

When was Dominique Wilkins on the Celtics?

Kris (aqueduct), Friday, 13 September 2002 01:51 (twenty-three years ago)

94-95 - He took them to the playoffs (they scared the Magic).

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 13 September 2002 02:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I think he might have been with the Spurs too. In fact, I think he still wants to play.

dleone (dleone), Friday, 13 September 2002 03:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah he was the Spurs leading scorer the year the Admiral was out (this is pre-Duncan), played for the league minimum, they cut him at the end of the season.
