wow. what a show. watch for it on youtube. pedal steel. banjo. fiddle. drums. female vocalist (who sang solo and duet with Jandek). Jandek with his black bass of death. So cool. the show was 2+ hours, but i could have sat there all night.

Who was the band?

I just love how no two Jandek shows are alike. It's the perfect counterpoint to the whole stretch of years where he laid low and just released records, now it's something else again.

uh, pedal steel guy plays with sunburned. can't remember his name. tony on banjo plays with crystalline roses. so does the fiddle guy. drummer was mark from supreme dicks. uh, woman singer was a friend of friends and i'm blanking on her name. she was great though.

right! i was blanking. she went to hampshire with ilxor herb albert and herb's wife. she was amazing and fit effortlessly into the jandek microverse.

obviously flip camera sound can't do justice to the majikal sound of the room last night. flywheel can sound weird sometimes - mostly depends on how things are set up - but it sounded so amazing last night. and you can't hear jandek's deep bass strumming on those vids. can't wait for a double disc set. he seemed to dig it. he was smiling pretty often.

wait, betsy sang with jandek last night? weird as hell.

apparently some of my pals went to the bar down the street and had drinks with jandek after the show, but we had to get home and let the babysitter go home. i don't know what i would have said to him anyway. thanks! that's about all i can think of.
i noted this on facebook that i thought it was appropriate that i sat next to mr & mrs coley at the show seeing as how byron was the one who turned me on the jandek when i was a high school kid. thanks, byron! (back in the good old days when jandek records were five bucks a pop.)

jandek talking with my pal eric (eric is a member of the awesome group Century Plants and the other awesome group Burnt Hills and he has an awesome label called Tape Drift - check his stuff out if you've never heard it). eric said that jandek really liked Western Mass! Maybe he'll move here...

The weather in Houston was (even by our standards) rather shitty this year, so it could happen.

The Flywheel x flip or Flip audio is very clear, and the video quality is okay. In the first song, Jandek says he got in his truck and went to the dance, was not so happy with what he found. The steel guitarist eventually (about 3:30 in) finds his groove, and even gets Jandek into it, briefly. But then the steel guitarist and the other musicians join in the dance, and leave him wobbling midst those flowers on the wall. The second song should be in the dictionary, as a definition of "wobble." The third song might have been bearable if Betsy sang all the way through, and Jandek not at all. I'd like to hear her with Hurley, is she on any of his records?

they have a 7" EP together (on Mississippi, might be out of print already), although I hesitate to give such info to a Jandek skeptic.

This thread kind of blows my mind when you think back like to the Jandek story 10 years ago, and now he's in picture talking to real life people!

Yes he likes a chat for sure. Part of the reason he started doing gigs in the first place was simply b/c no-one had asked him before.

Yep, eBay has the EP (Michael Hurley & Betsy Nichols, 4 songs on 7" vinyl) listed as OOP--but Hurley's selling it, along with CDRs of his albums--even got upcoming gigs listed, like with Meg Baird in PA on Oct. 8. Here's his site:http://www.snockonews.net/buy_stuff.htm Thanks for the tip, sleeve!
