This happened half a block down from me last night and I couldn't make it, which is unfortunate because it could be something outstanding:

Kim Deal is better known as the bassist and vocalist for The Pixies and lead vocalist for The Breeders, but tonight she will debut another project of hers that she has been working on with singer-songwriter Nina Nastasia.
nothing to report beyond this, but might as well start a thread!

breeders fans will probably lean favorably towards this:

ha, i thought how defeatist that sounded as soon as i posted it. it's just that i like my NN as pure and stripped back as possible and i can't actually think of anything KD could add to her sound that i would like (and i like her fine) but maybe it will be a whole other singular thing.
― jed_, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 00:52 (thirteen years ago)
I'm pretty intrigued as I like both, and Kim Deal always seems to shine when she's collaborating (ie "Little Trouble Girl," "Love Hurts," etc)
― If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 00:54 (thirteen years ago)
i'm pleased to read about it because the last i heard of NN she was very ill and cancelled a tour and her illness was never elaborated on by her record company. so at least she must be on the mend.
― jed_, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 00:55 (thirteen years ago)
who the hell is NN? would i like her? this is exciting

kinda think these two could bring out something interesting in one another. nina loosening up a bit, kim focusing more? would definitely listen!

what a weird and intriguing combo! i like them both but consider them in almost opposite camps, so i guess i am anticipating this. would love to hear what NN sounds like with some of KD's dizziness and what KD sounds like with some of NN's grim seriousness.

This is my favorite NN song - so sad and beautiful:

Kim Deal has been inching towards this sort of clean/hauntingly beautiful style (never listened to Nina Nastasia before) for a while now. "Bragging Party," "Off You," "Here No More," the "Chances Are" cover. Her voice has always been suited for it.

i saw her live show w/jim white at the knitting factory in l.a. (in a side lounge!) there were maybe twenty people in attendance. loved it, wish there were more folks there but at the same time it was perfect.
― omar little, Thursday, 13 October 2011 18:20 (thirteen years ago)
i've seen her live more than any other act, maybe 5 or 6 times, and it's always completely different and always amazing. i've seen her with a full band (inc. jim white) and huun huur tu (the tuvan throat singers) and i've seen her drunk and solo. the last time it was just her and a violinist and that was probably best of all.
― jed_, Thursday, 13 October 2011 18:31 (thirteen years ago)
actually just after that last gig i spoke to her for a while at the bar afterwards. she was very nice and dunk and open.

"brad haunts a party" is so amazing
in my mind the great currently operating singer/songwriter

wait was this at stereo. i mean i guess she coulda been drunk more than once onstage but if it was, this was so ace & she was so awesomely kinda slo-mo and slurry and sultry. only slightly i guess but enough for it to be this kind of catching thing, like w/ray charles or whatever.
general co-sign to all of this thread. there were a couple of twitter reactions after the show that said kim deal played for a while & then sorta slowed down to play w/NN, so i guess it is ~mellow~

yes schlump! at stereo. we have crossed paths many times and never met.
