I wasn't going to list their six dozen late nineties minor singles.

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:02 (fourteen years ago)

DANGEROUS

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:02 (fourteen years ago)

I have not heard anything after "Almost Unreal" (from Super Mario Bros the movie).

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:03 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I don't even recognize most of those tbh.

da croupier, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:04 (fourteen years ago)

Apparently they released a single this year called "She's Got Nothing On (But The Radio)"

da croupier, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:11 (fourteen years ago)

Can we poll best song title on Son of a Plumber?

Shortlist nominations:

5. "Week With Four Thursdays"
7. "Late, Later On"
9. "Are You an Old Hippie, Sir?"
10. "Double-headed Elvis"
12. "Speed Boat to Cuba"
1. "Kurt - The Fastest Plumber in the West"
2. "I Never Quite Got over the Fact that the Beatles Broke Up"
7. "Something Happened Today"
11. "Making Love or Expecting Rain"

Amazingly, none of the above even have parentheses!

Tim F, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:19 (fourteen years ago)

12. "Speed Boat to Cuba"

from the Miami Vice sounddtrack.

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:23 (fourteen years ago)

My picks:

Rocker: "Dangerous" (YOUR MOUF IS ALIIIVE!)
Ballad: "Fading Like a Flower" (unexpected guitar fills)
Crap: "Listen to Your Heart"

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:23 (fourteen years ago)

We had so many joke Roxette songs at school when I was about 9 years old. "Listen To Your Fart", "Undressed For Some Sex" etc. etc.

Tim F, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:25 (fourteen years ago)

oh man "listen to your fart" just made me lol heartily

horseshoe, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:26 (fourteen years ago)

They were one of those acts whose popularity was unquestioned (four #1's in the US!) but I didn't know a single person who listened to them willingly or bought their singles.

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:27 (fourteen years ago)

A friend in 5th grade refused to tell me what he wanted for his birthday and then wrote "Roxette - Joyride" on a note during class when I asked again. I bought the tape and gave it to him at his party, only have him shouting "oh my god, dude, I was joking!"

da croupier, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:31 (fourteen years ago)

i was already an aspiring college rocker so i didn't find him wanting roxette any more absurd than the other kids in the class loving Another Bad Creation and Color Me Badd.

da croupier, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:32 (fourteen years ago)

aw!

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:32 (fourteen years ago)

I got Joyride a week after Consolidated's Friendly Fascism. How's that for punk rock?

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:34 (fourteen years ago)

It Must've Been Love. Few pop ballads are ever that lovely anymore.

jer.fairall, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:42 (fourteen years ago)

Son of a Plumber is an album released by Swedish pop-rock singer and composer Per Gessle. It is the first album by Gessle to use a different artist name; Son of a Plumber. The album, which was officially released on 23 November 2005,[6] is a double CD album packed with deeply personal and highly inventive music according to Gessle[citation needed].

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 09:21 (fourteen years ago)

Apparently they released a single this year called "She's Got Nothing On (But The Radio)"

played in my local pub every lunchtime this summer. my violent teenage antipathy to roxette has barely abated in the intervening years.

antiautodefenestrationism (ledge), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 09:25 (fourteen years ago)

Had to go with Fading Like A Flower. Very tough though.

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 11:51 (fourteen years ago)

Tough in a good way, not because they're all terrible.

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

the tax avocado (DJP), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

voting Almost Unreal for irrational sentimental reasons, but there's actually a lot of good stuff on here. Fading Like a Flower!

boxorox (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 07:55 (fourteen years ago)

I really like Dangerous and The Look.

have just learned that It Must Have Been Love is in fact a Christmas song, originally titled "It Must Have Been Love (Christmas for the Broken Hearted)" and was written at the behest of their record label to "come up with an intelligent Christmas single"

was a big hit in Sweden and then three years later the producers of "Pretty Woman" asked them for a contribution to the soundtrack, so they replaced the only instance of the word "Christmas" with "winter" and robert's your father's brother, massive international hit

love old school record biz stories like this, with clueless producers/investors just throwing money and promo energy at people hoping for "a hit" whatever that means anymore

anyways great song, will add the original to the holidays playlist in a few months

Florin Cuchares, Friday, 18 August 2023 04:54 (two years ago)

it must have been Christmas
but it's over now
I got lots of gifts
but they sucked anyhow
