Lou Reed/Metallica Collabo Anticipation Thread

ILX pre-covers LULU -- the Lou Reed/Metallica album

Enjoy!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

Oh yeah and the press release:

--

It's not surprising, but what is surprising? Indeed, what is surprise? What is? What isn't?

The future is in regard to the past, the present is of the moment, that which is of now. And now is not now yet, but now will yet be, and the now is of that moment so anticipated that when the now is achieved, it will have already been. A moment before the moment occurring, yet in that moment, which is and is not.

LULU, the great work. Within a realm that is real, a reality, and yet beyond those limits. Something yet nothing, for nothing is real, it is nothing to get crunk about. It is everything, and so, the response.

But not the response, the presponse.

Rock (and yet, why just rock?) is ingested here, pre-chewed, unrealized, reified. Its potency defies fertility, not defines it, for limitation is not of this essence.

The words, they were unknown, yet they barked, a canine grace in a feline aperture of a rodential body of an insectoid dream. The acoustic stared at the multiple. Hello, acoustic, we did not see you sitting there.

THE VOICE!

Inscribed onto a genetic code of fragmented realization, a UPC of marketing that which can't for it was and isn't and will be. We had to laugh.

It mirrored, it was one, then two, a dual strand, a single fusion, a unique gathering, a shattering of elements, a ten a twenty a nothing an infinity.

Our morality was a modernity, a ship not steered but flung into the heavens as by an outraged god, turned into a constellation of dark matter. A rough beast, belching towards Cleveland.

ILX Pre-Covers LULU.

Between bot and objection. Slime is the mire in which we turn. Cannot the wisdom of confusion bake your dome?

Iced Honey 1 IS MUH JAM.

I'm really surprised how good each track segues into another; none of you heard each others when making it right?

Guys, I have so much work to do today, but I can't stop listening to this. Currently on the Hawaiian guitar-like segment of "Mistress Dread." This is making me happier than a new Residents record.

Onerous Clown (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:24 (fourteen years ago)

So much so that I have a new screen name.

Blue Doggie Sweater (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:30 (fourteen years ago)

Tyler's was just SO FUCKING PERFECT as the first song. First time I heard these as they came in I was just fucking floored. Floored by all of them, really!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:32 (fourteen years ago)

Da Croup's "Iced Honey" is really making me hope this gets Spotifyed.

I was hoping someone else would single out this one; I love the complete contrast between the two halves.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

I could say this about a lot of these, but snoball's making me happy this thing's in stereo.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:38 (fourteen years ago)

I'm sure this is causing some serious thinking in the Loutallica camp

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:39 (fourteen years ago)

I'm really surprised how good each track segues into another; none of you heard each others when making it right?

As far as I know, no -- they all just arrived as they did. Gotta say that ILX comps are pretty stellar for always having some actual variety to them.

snoball's "Frustration" is another favorite; his "Get On Your Boots" for the U2 one is an all time classic and this is not far off.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:39 (fourteen years ago)

do you guys think this will be how the irl lou reed and metallica react to their lulu

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:40 (fourteen years ago)

"Wow, Kirk. I didn't know you actually knew how to play the guitar."

the bridge of "Little Dog" I is still my favorite moment on the album

he carried yellow flowers (DJP), Friday, 28 October 2011 21:06 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, that's pretty much when I set my left temple down on the edge of the desk and started convulsing.

pplains, Friday, 28 October 2011 21:17 (fourteen years ago)

Utterly glorious, that moment. I think my first reaction was a 'what the' and then it hit me fully.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 28 October 2011 21:20 (fourteen years ago)

my favorite moment would be the piano final of little dog v.I. so beautiful.

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 29 October 2011 07:31 (fourteen years ago)

The lyrics to that Little Dog are grebt, but I still go for the two popular favorites Brandenburg Gate I and Cheat On Me II

Mayne of Fules (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 29 October 2011 13:22 (fourteen years ago)

I finally heard all of LULU II today, and I just wanted to give props to Sean and Virgin Killer for two *amazing* and totally different versions of "Junior Dad". Major respect for taking on the 20-minute track!

Both albums are really great.

tylerw, Thursday, 10 November 2011 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

So, is this still off the "net" because of Youtube?

Mark G, Thursday, 10 November 2011 16:43 (fourteen years ago)

Lord no! The Soundcloud links at the very start of the thread still happily work. I set 'em up that way for a reason, folks!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 10 November 2011 16:45 (fourteen years ago)

I haven't had the courage to listen to any real LULU track : is it as bad as it seems ?

AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 10 November 2011 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

I might give this project an anniversary spin then !

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 29 October 2021 13:54 (four years ago)

It was still such a treat to put this all together and just thinking about how well it would land while everyone was going crazy waiting for the final tracks to arrive.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 October 2021 14:45 (four years ago)

So is there any chance of putting this up on the ILX bandcamp page?

IIRC part of the reason why we didn't go that route was because not every track arrived in AIFF/WAV format.

I am so proud to have been part of this project
