has anyone posted about pole on the levis ad? if so, where is it? if not, i cant remewmber if anyone here likes pole or not, but it gives a small thrill of pleasure to hear it on national tv...5 yrs too late. will the paost record of levis ads turning the producers of their ad-music into stars work on stephan betke? (is that his name?).

Turbonegro had tours sponsored by Levis.

Kris (aqueduct), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 15:10 (twenty-three years ago)

pole 3 rules

geeg, Tuesday, 10 September 2002 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

For a second I thought that a Stephan Betke track had been used for a levi's commercial...

gygax! to thread!

hstencil, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

huh?
but yes Pole 3 rocks

dsico (dsico), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 02:23 (twenty-three years ago)

This is joke, right?

Pole hasn't really licensed anything for a Levi's ad. Can't imagine that monolithic muzak being very compelling next to pre-stretch denim flares, or whatever.

Michael Dieter, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 03:48 (twenty-three years ago)

It isn't a joke, and it works v. well - made me want to listen to my Pole albs again.

Porter Ricks are also advertising 'Sunny Delight' at the moment.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 07:06 (twenty-three years ago)

i agree, it works brilliantly. this might not be the place but it's interesting watching levis slowly scale back and abstract their corporate image.

bob zemko (bob), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 07:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes I can imagine this working amazingly! Some bright young advertiser should still the skippy groove track of Porter Ricks' second album, too.

this also may not be the place, but levi's is a family owned company, not a corporation.

hi hstencil!

gygax!, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

gygax! whatever roots levis may've had (like 100 years ago) they still have a corporate identity. unless you mean to say that mom n' pop levi were sitting at the dinner table stitching a new pair of asymmetric limited Red label while relaxing to pole 3 at home and had an idea...

or have i blundered into yet another private joke?

bob zemko (bob), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

They are still owned by the Haas family and not publically traded, but that doesn't mean they're not a corporation, unless there's some precise definition of corporation I'm unaware of. Do you work at Levis or something, gygax?

would it shock you if that was true?

gygax!, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

this is the uk, unbelievers. well, wauvenfold are on the sprite ad (allegedly)...

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 12 September 2002 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi gygax! When's the next friends and family sale? I'm going to be working about a block from the Levi's store on 57th Street.

hstencil, Thursday, 12 September 2002 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi hstencil!

I don't know! Can you get me a free checking account at Bank of America or do I need a $5,000 minimum daily balance?

gygax!, Thursday, 12 September 2002 16:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I think if you and I were "partners" under the statutes in your city, then yes, I could get you a free checking account. Barring that, though, I can't help you. Sorry.

Maybe a free pen?

hstencil, Thursday, 12 September 2002 16:27 (twenty-three years ago)

seven months pass...
I have the 45/45 thing - different, but grrrreat! I also have Pole 2, what else should I get?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 9 May 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

essential: fourtet vs pole on lo.
the fourtet mix of pole's 'heim' is stunning...
also on scape: jan jelinek, the avec les exposures 12" (not the album), and 'loop finding jazz...'

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 9 May 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

R on ~scape is my favorite pole record. i would highly recommend it, this coming from me who has every pole cd/ep and also an advance of "showcase" the new one on mute. pole is grrrreat, though i'm still undecided about this guy rapping over his shit on the new one.

jason m. (jason m), Friday, 9 May 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

back this thread up a year..... gygax, do (did) you work at Levis hq?

my fiance does

JasonD (JasonD), Friday, 9 May 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree that R is the overlooked gem in the catalog, really is a v. nice, subtle, detailed record.

Mark (MarkR), Friday, 9 May 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Pole 1 and 3 are safe bets. The new album is bobbins though (rapping, saxsolo's...oh dear.)
