And yes before anyone complains we can change the title, we just needed something for now.

Deadline November 30th, no limitations, originals, covers, whatever. MP3, AIFF, WAV, whatever format is best (I use Apple, FWIW), file size not an issue. E-mail files or links to me at ned at kuci dot org when you're done. We'll need cover art as always. Post if you're in.

ms. c flat (get bent), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:35 (thirteen years ago)

maybe dan and i can collab on something from britten's "a ceremony of carols."

ms. c flat (get bent), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:36 (thirteen years ago)

oh that would be COOL

do not wake the dragon (DJP), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:38 (thirteen years ago)

i can start as soon as i get my mic cable resoldered. which i've been meaning to do for a few months.

ms. c flat (get bent), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:40 (thirteen years ago)

i'll probably do something. i'm apparently committing to every ilx music project these days. i kind of want to try to make the most depressing christmas song i can.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:46 (thirteen years ago)

maybe i should promise to do "cherry tree carol" so i can force myself to do something
i loathe christmas music but i love that song
and it would force me to try
and i know the song

i am going to regret this (and may need help) but can i claim that song til further notice?

Art Arfons (La Lechera), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:47 (thirteen years ago)

it's only october after all

Art Arfons (La Lechera), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:48 (thirteen years ago)

i think we should get the entire CHILX massive together to do something, "we are the world"-style.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:49 (thirteen years ago)

oh shit we can do "do they know it's christmas" or whatever that bullshit's called

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:50 (thirteen years ago)

One of my college roommates was very talented musically, sang in a barbershop quartet, etc. He was good at transposing songs into other keys, and one afternoon he had us all on the floor laughing/crying by singing carols as minor-key dirges.

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:51 (thirteen years ago)

my fantasy is that we all get together, have a party, get drunk, then each pick a celebrity who sang on "do they know its christmas" and try to do an imitation of that celebrity singing their line.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:52 (thirteen years ago)

i'll do one

sarahel, Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:54 (thirteen years ago)

maybe the 12 whatevers of SuggestBanmas

sarahel, Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:57 (thirteen years ago)

Okay, edited thread title/first message for more specific information, so gear up etc.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:59 (thirteen years ago)

i am going to regret this (and may need help) but can i claim that song til further notice?

Sure, but as noted, no limitations -- if people want to do their own take on that, feel free. I figure people should post what you want to do when you've figured out the song and I'll keep a running list. And remember, do originals too if you want! No reason not to!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:01 (thirteen years ago)

Ok, tbh I'm already regretting posting that, so we'll see if I can manage to get anything at all done by Nov. 15

Art Arfons (La Lechera), Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:03 (thirteen years ago)

who all has been suggest banned so far? are we up to 12?

sarahel, Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:16 (thirteen years ago)

Huh. Seems weird. Oh well, I did say no limitations so hey.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:19 (thirteen years ago)

well if it's too weird/crepey, i will do something else and let the 9 whiney's whining be merely a figment of my imagination.

sarahel, Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:20 (thirteen years ago)

I'm in too, I welched on the last one mainly because I was getting hitched and had no real time but I'd love to do an Xmas song of some description.

My housemate does a freakin excellent Bing Crosby impression and is forever going about the place singing "jingle bells" and "white christmas". I may have to put him to good use.

first draft of the last verse:

on the 12th day of suggestbanmas, the good mod gave to me:

⚓ (gr8080), Thursday, 13 October 2011 23:33 (thirteen years ago)

Ah, was thinking it was time for a new 'no restrictions' compilation.

This would be ILX vol 6 wouldn't it? Or have we sacked the 'count'...

Anyroad, I have to be in this. I'm in.

Mark G, Thursday, 13 October 2011 23:37 (thirteen years ago)

I dont think "suggestbanmas" scans at all well. Wouldnt "banmas" scan better?

Occupy Kelly St (Trayce), Thursday, 13 October 2011 23:43 (thirteen years ago)

(not that I'm sure its a great idea, tbh... its asking for a clusterfuck with those lyrics heh ah well :P)

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Friday, 14 October 2011 05:22 (thirteen years ago)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 14 October 2011 05:23 (thirteen years ago)

I think the "Christmas" theme has taken over!

Mark G, Friday, 14 October 2011 06:41 (thirteen years ago)

Ned, I'm in. Track sent!

I've got an idea brewing for a new track so I'll get to work on it

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 15:41 (eleven years ago)

Hey Ned, I sent you a recording last year that was a little too late. Is it eligible for the re-boot? I do not have a great recording set up right now, so that would be my best contribution. I can resend of course.

grandavis, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 17:24 (eleven years ago)

(xp) Fuck it, that idea didn't work... but I've got another one, to the Batcave!

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Monday, 11 November 2013 09:24 (eleven years ago)

Grandavis: please resend!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 11 November 2013 14:29 (eleven years ago)

I do not have a great recording set up right now

LOL, mine's is a PC, an freeware audio editor and a guitar

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Monday, 11 November 2013 14:39 (eleven years ago)

Alright Ned, will do.

Tom D., I do not even have a personal computer right now, just my work computer, so "not great" could have been substituted for non-existent. I am not happy about it, but perhaps Chrismtmas this year will bring some new toys ....

grandavis, Monday, 11 November 2013 15:33 (eleven years ago)

is this still available on Soundcloud please ?

piscesx, Monday, 11 November 2013 18:43 (eleven years ago)

Heyyyyy, wait for the re-release!

Mark G, Monday, 11 November 2013 23:39 (eleven years ago)

Would you accept a reggae cover of Cold Cold Ground by Tom Waits?

Pingu Unchained (dog latin), Friday, 15 November 2013 12:31 (eleven years ago)

Over to you, Ned

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Friday, 15 November 2013 12:33 (eleven years ago)

two weeks pass...

Really enjoying this still, especially as I get closer to being on vacation! Tom D., your tracks are really great I must say, right up my alley. I would listen to those in any context. Do you record other stuff? I mean everything on this is good/fun/rocking and many combinations of all of those things, but those tracks and the Elf With Wound song I could listen to on repeat without any complaints.

grandavis, Thursday, 19 December 2013 22:55 (eleven years ago)

Thanks g, your track is great too btw! I only work when prompted these days, more or less.
