A rather good selection of songs again. Madonna, Depeche Mode, Electronic, The Cure and The Blue Nile all great songs. However, this just has to be The Stone Roses.

monkey gone to heaven-one of the best songs ever

nakamura, Saturday, 15 October 2011 00:44 (thirteen years ago)

Lullaby? That's not even in the top 5 songs on Disintegration.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 15 October 2011 00:45 (thirteen years ago)

Humpty 4eva.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 15 October 2011 00:54 (thirteen years ago)

it's really tough between like a prayer and nothing compares 2 u for me

kaygee, Saturday, 15 October 2011 00:56 (thirteen years ago)

hilarious to see chloe dancer/ crown of thorns on there. beautiful song, but wouldn't have thought it would be included on this kind of thing.

charlie h, Saturday, 15 October 2011 01:09 (thirteen years ago)

I love "Nothing Has Been Proved," "Back to Life" (though would prefer "Keep on Movin'"), "Monkey Gone to Heaven," and "Nothing Compares 2 U," but still this is easily "Getting Away with It" for me. The B-52's' "Roam," Inner City (most would pick "Big Fun" or "Good Life"; I'd go with "Do You Love What You Feel"), Young MC's "Bust a Move," and--no lie!--Milli Vanilli's "Girl You Know It's True" should be on there, and I'd list De Le Soul's "Eye Know" instead. Personal favourites: Beat Happening's "Knick Knack," Grant Hart's "2541," James Dean Driving Experience's "Oh, Grateful," Kon Kan's "I Beg Your Pardon," Maureen Tucker's "Do It Right," Neil Young's "Hangin' on a Limb," Pavement's "Box Elder," the Ramones' "Pet Sematary," Speed the Plough's "Big Bus," St. James Infirmary's "The Boy Who Crossed the Street," and the Stone Roses's "Waterfall" (technically a single much later). Good year.

("Like a Prayer" I've never liked--not then, not now. And I'd count "Nothing Compares 2 U" as 1990; it was released as a single in early '90, and dominated radio during the spring.)

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Saturday, 15 October 2011 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

Happy Mondays

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Saturday, 15 October 2011 03:23 (thirteen years ago)

Although I also like some of the others including

The Stone Roses: I Am The Resurrection
Faith No More: Epic
Madonna: Like a Prayer
Pixies: Monkey Gone To Heaven
Soul II Soul: Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Saturday, 15 October 2011 03:26 (thirteen years ago)

Hmmmm maybe wishing I'd voted I Am The Resurrection. bah. No, I'm good with W.F.L.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Saturday, 15 October 2011 03:27 (thirteen years ago)

I voted The Sundays because it's probably the only chance I'll get to do so in one of these polls.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 15 October 2011 03:29 (thirteen years ago)

here's your chance to do the hump

the emancipation of distraction (askance johnson), Saturday, 15 October 2011 03:32 (thirteen years ago)

cocksucker's anthem

prolego, Wednesday, 19 October 2011 19:38 (thirteen years ago)

I thought I'd have to redo this poll, but I guess we can keep this thread and vote here then?

Hongroe (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 19 October 2011 20:44 (thirteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Wednesday, 19 October 2011 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

AWESOME :D

Two Noble Klinsmenn (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 19 October 2011 23:03 (thirteen years ago)

The verdict is in, and the number of votes - in spite of the downtime - is efficient to accept the poll. So 1990 next then.

Hongroe (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 19 October 2011 23:34 (thirteen years ago)

miss this

Bee OK, Thursday, 20 October 2011 01:51 (thirteen years ago)

missed this, rather

Bee OK, Thursday, 20 October 2011 01:51 (thirteen years ago)

Excellent winner of a really good list!

Mark G, Thursday, 20 October 2011 09:57 (thirteen years ago)

One of the better recent lists, and boo, I missed it. Would probably have voted "Like A Prayer", but there were 11 close contenders. I love pop years with 9s on the end of them. (Except 1999. That was shit.)

mike t-diva, Thursday, 20 October 2011 11:21 (thirteen years ago)

Would have totally voted "Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns" if I'd had the chance. That song just never sounds bad to me. Of course, that was more representative of my 1992 year in music.

rustic italian flatbread, Thursday, 20 October 2011 11:32 (thirteen years ago)

No wonder many missed this, bummer about the downtime, but there are enough votes here, so I am going for 1990.

Hongroe (Geir Hongro), Thursday, 20 October 2011 12:17 (thirteen years ago)

I love pop years with 9s on the end of them. (Except 1999. That was shit.)

The only ones I really like are 1979 and 2009. 1989 was better than any year around that time though.

Hongroe (Geir Hongro), Thursday, 20 October 2011 12:18 (thirteen years ago)

no love for Free Fallin? damn... damn!!!!!

IM A BAAAAD BWOOOOIII

The sham nation of Israel should be destroyed. (Princess TamTam), Thursday, 20 October 2011 12:52 (thirteen years ago)

Might have been close to voting for "I Won't Back Down". Not that big on "Free Fallin"

Hongroe (Geir Hongro), Thursday, 20 October 2011 13:01 (thirteen years ago)

Mmm.. One is like "hey, I can do Bob's voice", and the other is "REM? Pssh."

Mark G, Thursday, 20 October 2011 13:21 (thirteen years ago)

I thought about "Free Fallin'" for a sec but it's no "Wicked Game" tbh

Two Noble Klinsmenn (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 20 October 2011 13:22 (thirteen years ago)

Isaak's LPs are pretty good too IIRC, I've got a friend who had a couple of them and still reps for them.

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Thursday, 20 October 2011 13:43 (thirteen years ago)

Soul II Soul: Back to Life (However Do You Want Me) 1

you people are philistines

do not wake the dragon (DJP), Thursday, 20 October 2011 13:56 (thirteen years ago)

"Humpty Dance" should have won. So many classic lines in that one, and the unforgettable bass.

o. nate, Thursday, 20 October 2011 14:20 (thirteen years ago)

Dr X O'Skeleton, Thursday, 20 October 2011 21:30 (thirteen years ago)

Soul II Soul: Back to Life (However Do You Want Me) 1
Janet Jackson: Rhythm Nation 1
The Cure: Lullaby 1

ge0rge (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 21 October 2011 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

It was a heck of a good list.

Mark G, Friday, 21 October 2011 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

I missed this too.

Pete Scholtes, Friday, 21 October 2011 17:11 (thirteen years ago)

Most of the voting days were lost during the downtime.

Hongroe (Geir Hongro), Friday, 21 October 2011 19:41 (thirteen years ago)
