ok. i want something that's like um--- illmatic or ready to die. they were both released eight years ago, so, like, um. i feel bad about asking. but, please.

what about cormega's the realness? 'cause, like, i thought that might be good. nas said his name on a song on illmatic. but then he had a feud with him or something. nas said his name on the song in 1994 but his debut just came out in 2001! so, how about that? if nas said my name on a song in 1994 i would have put out my debut sooner.

mobb deep too. i saw a mobb deep cd but it had a goofy cover and i only had fifteen dollars.

so, like, recommend new york-y, dark, cool hip-hop to me. because i don't know any,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,!

Big L - Put It On
It was released around the same time. Its pretty good. Check it out.

Any DITC: Any Diamond D, Lord Finesse, and AG... Big L - Lifestyles of the Poor and Dangerous (much better than his second one on Rawkus).

Stretching a little bit, but Main Source (which includes Large Pro - who does some production on illmatic), Gangstar (of course), and C.L. Smooth and Pete Rock (you can't go wrong with that).

Really, if you're just looking for a hot, Nas-like emcee Big L (RIP) will do. That era of NY hip hop may be my favorite. This is really just the tip of the iceberg, but it's a good place to start.

I second the Mobb Deep and Big L suggestions. Early Wu as well. Genius - Liquid Swords, Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Method Man - Tical, etc. Also you might want to look into Kool G Rap, Jeru tha Damaja, Group Home, and MOP.

btw, a while ago (around It was Written) Cormega leaked a track called "Fuckl Nas" or something so you may want to check that out.

some like Cannibal Ox... I feel their realness despite some of their flow being all underground & art-aware...

not so thuggish, but definitely dangerous and smart.
