My 11 year old, 750 mhZ, desktop computer with FL Studio4 on it is at home, and I've been really antsy to make tracks with the crappy/amazing Yamaha keyboard I found on the street about a month ago.

Thus far I've been just recording layers/individual sounds and editing them on Audacity, which works and is fun, but is incredibly time consuming - if only because of how long it takes to match up and sync everything. My question, then, is whether there's any free programs with a sort of FL studio or Garage band type format where I can essentially sequence samples. I don't need effects, presets, plug-ins, or anything like that, just some sort of easy to use way of laying down and editing a track.

Thanks.

Uncrippled?

Anyhow, thanks.

Oooh, it would also be very nice if I could time stretch (i.e. make edits) somehow.

i haven't worked with it deeply but iirc it does do reasonably good timestretching

uncrippled as in it's 100% functional even though you haven't bought a license yet.

yeah anything basic you'd want to do reaper can probably handle it. it's got a great all-in-one workflow around sampling / editing / midi sequencing etc. it's all i use, everything else feels clunky in comparison.

I really enjoy using Renoise, which is also 100% functional as a demo as far as I know.

I believe you can time stretch with it, if you add in a free app from the archive.

renoise demo does not let you render to wav/mp3 but there are ways around it (soundflower on the mac, for example)
it's definitely more geared towards tracking, though.
