More Grist for the Critical Mill

This is an interesting/amusing article in the Village Voice from an art critic who separates himself from those critics who only review things that they can write postively about...

A footnote to the enthusiast/wit dichotomy: here is someone who appears to be neither, but rather a truth seeker, a smasher of preconceived ideals... An outsider who is happy with his outsider status...

two months pass...
I just realised that when it comes to myself trying to write about things that I've been reading or listening to, if it's something I like, I really can't write about it because it's too boring. But if I'm making up complete lies - I mean, defending something indefensible or criticising something good - it's completely possible and even entertaining. I think I 'suddenly' realised it after reading an interview with Chuck Eddy where he sort of implies that all his opinions are just opposites to what you're 'supposed' to think. He implied it, not me, okay?

But I'm pretty uncomfortable with this as it means never being able to say what I truly think. Well, I could, but it would be incredibly tedious, to me.

all my opinions are opposites of what you're 'supposed' to think - it's my intellectual dishonesty.

It's all in the entertainment value. That's not dishonest, merely creative. :-)
