Graham leaves Blur - potential C/D?

fairly self-explanatory really - word is, Graham Coxon's not appearing on the next Blur album. What does this mean for the band? Anyone still interested?

I'm scared Damon's gonna ruin it with his useless melodica playing, is all. I always felt he & Graham cancelled each other out, so to speak - intellect vs gut - so I'm pretty sure it's all gonna go wrong now...Graham would never have accepted the involvement of Norman Cook in any case - moot point, perhaps?

Charlie (Charlie), Thursday, 12 September 2002 05:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm hardly a Graham Coxon fan, but I will say this severely diminishes my interest in the next Blur album.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 12 September 2002 06:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree with James, Blur's "13" was heavy with interesting guitar stuff and I wonder what will come out of the studio without Coxon's input... so I guess I don't agree with James :-/ I am interested in the next Blur album, but I don't think it will be an interesting one...

Like you can't discuss this on 22, Charlie. I'm offended! Sniff!

For me, Blur is all about the bass anyway. But without Graham to keep Damon's monstrous ego in check, I fear for the worst. Then again, I feared for the worst on 13, and some of my favourite work is on there.

Screw the load of this, I'm off to read Damon/Graham slash and remember a world where everything was happy and the LURRRVED each other. Mmmmmmm.

I want it to be good so I can beat their fans with the fact that Norman Cook was involved.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 12 September 2002 08:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Or else I want it to be "i got my head shaved head shaved head shaved head shaved head shaved headheadheadheadheadheadheadhead shavedshavedshavedshavedshavedshaved headheadshavedhaved headheadshavedshaved" brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr bass drums return, Fatblur Slim are born.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 12 September 2002 08:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely, Ronan, that would be "I got HAIR CLUB FOR MEN, HAIR CLUB, hair club, haaaiiirrrrrrrrr clubclubclubclubclub brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" considering Damon's foliculage lately. ;-)

kate, Thursday, 12 September 2002 08:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate, you should write some slash fiction about Norman Cook and Damon rubbing their bald heads together!

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 12 September 2002 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

they're finished.

piscesboy, Thursday, 12 September 2002 12:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wouldn't pretty much any bit of slash fiction involve two guys rubbing their "bald heads" together?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 12 September 2002 13:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Not Slash fiction with Slash in it.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 12 September 2002 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe Graham will actually put some time into a solo album now. I'm always torn, because his first one sounds like tossed-off brilliance and the second one like tossed-off crap: what would happen if he actually, like, bothered?

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 12 September 2002 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Just destroy Blur all together. ;)

mmesker (mmesker), Thursday, 12 September 2002 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

it would sound like Billy Childish

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 12 September 2002 22:51 (twenty-three years ago)

That's the other issue tho innit - Graham's input to Blur thus far is immesurable (who knows how much of Damon's indulgent crap he vetoed on pain of punching?), but I've really never rated his solo stuff at all. Except for that Oochie Woochie jazzwank one, whatever it's called.

I'm more of the mind that Graham will be much better off without Blur than Blur will be without Graham.

PS. Kate, I'd lurve to discuss this at length on 22, but you guys already did that! In fact, I wouldn't even have known about G leaving had it not been for 22...thus, 22 is to Blur what Popbitch was to 911...

Charlie (Charlie), Thursday, 12 September 2002 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Graham will go Bernard Butler and Blur will go Suede.

In case there's any doubt, this is very bad.

I just knew bad man Dang Perry would write something like this if I mentioned baldy action, but I went ahead anyway.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 13 September 2002 00:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Graham will go Kelly Clarkson and Blur will go Justin Guarini.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 13 September 2002 00:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Damon will go Phil Collins while Graham goes Peter Gabriel, I'd wager. NEXT!

Charlie (Charlie), Friday, 13 September 2002 00:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Eh, Damon can just get Jamie Hewlett to draw him a new Graham anyway...
