i always hear marvin's room with the jojo verse stuck in so i can't vote for that. maybe deuces

Bruce K. Tedesco (zachlyon), Saturday, 19 November 2011 19:07 (thirteen years ago)

a smorgasbord of solipsism.

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Saturday, 19 November 2011 20:20 (thirteen years ago)

'crew love' is just unmitigated garbage front to back but jfc 'aston martin music' somehow manages to be even worse

Lamp, Saturday, 19 November 2011 21:20 (thirteen years ago)

'i'm on one' and 'aston martin music' are 5 star classics fuiud

Neanderthal, Saturday, 19 November 2011 23:26 (thirteen years ago)

i'm guessing the Tyga song would be right up there, but i've never heard it so i'm gonna go with 'Deuces'

een, Saturday, 19 November 2011 23:30 (thirteen years ago)

'aston martin music' is like a subtly terrible plastic surgery job and drake is the part where the surgeon fucked up

youth, ya goon (Lamp), Saturday, 19 November 2011 23:45 (thirteen years ago)

that guest spot was one of the more tolerable things he did pre-Take Care!!!

Neanderthal, Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:02 (thirteen years ago)

there's a beat on the yelawolf album where justice league just blatantly recycle "aston martin music"

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:30 (thirteen years ago)

anyway

top 5 -- i like all of these songs a lot

1 marvin's room
2 loving you no more
3 round of applause
4 headlines
5 i'm on one

bottom 5 -- all of these songs are legitimately terrible

5 she will (beat & hook are cool but the verses are so unforgivable)
4 still got it (this is somehow worse than you'd expect, it just sounds so completely unpleasant)
3 all of the lights (the radio jam in spite of itself rendered unlistenable)
2 deuces remix (arguably the worst work of the career of every single person on this song)
1 right above it (this song is just an utter mess, i'm still not entirely convinced that the beat and vocals were supposed to go together)

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:35 (thirteen years ago)

i might like the "I'm On One" beat if "Poppin' Bottles" wasn't such a superior prototype

some dude, Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:42 (thirteen years ago)

"She Will" is pretty decent imo -- it's not like Wayne's verses on it are any worse than Drake's verses on most of these other songs

some dude, Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:42 (thirteen years ago)

i agree that 'i'm on one' is a pretty bogus bite but its got a better/more memorable melodic synth hook to it imo

j0rdan ranking effin marvins room & headlines ahead of the aforementioned tracks is rme

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:49 (thirteen years ago)

like, headlines works but its *so* generic production wise

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:49 (thirteen years ago)

i feel like 'marvins room' is basically a love him / hate him litmus test for drake. to me, that's everything bad about Drake in one song pretty much

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:50 (thirteen years ago)

the video is actually LOOKING AT A PARTY THROUGH SMOKE lmao

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwyjxsOYnys

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:51 (thirteen years ago)

"i'm on one" is a great beat & hook and it feels so close to being epic but ross' verse is the only one that is anywhere near great, and he's done much better elsewhere

the "headlines" production is pretty generic and kinda stays out of the way but i just think the songwriting and rapping is better. it kinda is what it is whereas "i'm on one" just feels like a missed opportunity to me

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:52 (thirteen years ago)

Drake sips only on the finest well beverages and 2 for 1 special beers

Neanderthal, Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:53 (thirteen years ago)

(xpost)

Neanderthal, Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:53 (thirteen years ago)

"i'm on one" becomes basically unlistenable after ross' verse

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:54 (thirteen years ago)

the rapping on headlines is his most robotic we-drink-to-my-ac-comp-lish-ments-here's-a-syl-la-ble-for-ev-e-ry-beat flow ever, fuck outta here

some dude, Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:59 (thirteen years ago)

i think they make that real measured kinda feel work -- it's very mathematical & workmanlike

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:06 (thirteen years ago)

if you build a drake song-generating computer in 2009, the jaded-about-fame-2nd-album-singles it would've made would be "headlines" and "marvin's room"

some dude, Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:22 (thirteen years ago)

built

some dude, Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:23 (thirteen years ago)

had i known that in 09 i might've been less harsh on the dude

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:25 (thirteen years ago)

he had a few songs back then that are better than those!

some dude, Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:27 (thirteen years ago)

songs i actually like because of drake: moment 4 life
songs i really like where his presence is incidental: unusual, poppin' bottles, loving you no more, round of applause
songs i might like if he weren't on them: aston martin music, what's my name, take care, she will
pure garbage: headlines, marvin's room, make me proud, right above it, crew love, i'm on one, fall for your type

some dude, Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:34 (thirteen years ago)

"i'm on one" beat is too good to fuck up that easily imo

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:36 (thirteen years ago)

the squiggly synth line is nice but i feel like i've heard things like that enough before and nothing else about the production is very hype

some dude, Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:38 (thirteen years ago)

cant believe people hate aston martin music

lol forgot that drake was on LTTP

tracy mcgr8080 (dayo), Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:47 (thirteen years ago)

ross + the beat are alright, but drake's goofy TOOYOO accent and chrisette's beyond inane hook kinda ruin it for me

some dude, Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:51 (thirteen years ago)

yeah the hook on that is pretty fucking lame

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:53 (thirteen years ago)

thats crazy. the hook is a huge part of why that song is awesome

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:00 (thirteen years ago)

im not going to have a MARVINS ROOM fan dismissing the hook to aston martin music

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:00 (thirteen years ago)

i know that listening to the yeah yeah yeahs really resonates with you

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:04 (thirteen years ago)

chrisette michel's hook is sick

ive told jordan this story irl but i always thought that was something kind of funny about the hook, how 'listening to the yeah yeah yeahs' is a sign of like affluence or w/e for chrisette michel whereas i associate it w/ dirty basement hipster parties from my jr. year of college.

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:24 (thirteen years ago)

i like aston martin music a lot but drake's part on it is irredeemably terrible

i actually like the beat to headlines cause it sounds sort of like philip glass

Bruce K. Tedesco (zachlyon), Sunday, 20 November 2011 03:50 (thirteen years ago)

worst part about aston martin music is drake going UNGH every time

Bruce K. Tedesco (zachlyon), Sunday, 20 November 2011 03:50 (thirteen years ago)

the song is kinda cool but it really starts to grate after a bunch of listens imo

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 03:52 (thirteen years ago)

"she will" is so, so bad and one of the few on this list i actually hear on the radio like everyday

Jacques_Lamure, Sunday, 20 November 2011 04:21 (thirteen years ago)

drake is public cornball number one in my book but marvins room and headlines sound great compared to other stuff in clear channel radio rotation, imo

Jacques_Lamure, Sunday, 20 November 2011 04:23 (thirteen years ago)

How does aston martin "grate" exactly? Thats about the last word I would use to describe it, it's the most sumptuous track

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 06:41 (thirteen years ago)

hook is annoying

shawty redmayne (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 06:44 (thirteen years ago)

that repetition of "aston... martin... music"

shawty redmayne (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 06:44 (thirteen years ago)

isn't "aston martin music" way old? i don't think i've given it a second thought since hearing it for the first time. it's not very notable really.

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Sunday, 20 November 2011 07:05 (thirteen years ago)

i think "mr wrong" is quite easily the best song here, and that's definitely despite drake, who i have to fwd past every time

worst is pretty tough. all these songs are on regular radio rotation in the US? best argument i've ever seen for not listening to the radio

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Sunday, 20 November 2011 07:08 (thirteen years ago)

actually "mr. wrong" just describes your posts itt

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 11:26 (thirteen years ago)

of those that i've heard i think 'aston martin music' is actually the best, the worst easily being 'headlines'

bizarre results

btw the other day i was at a newsstand w/ my brother-in-law and i told him to go check out how ridiculous Drake looked on the cover of The Source and he went "there's a thesaurus with Drake on the cover?" and i just died

i didn't even see this poll before.

this is such a funny line to me

I Love Pedantry (D-40), Sunday, 15 January 2012 10:29 (thirteen years ago)

yeah it kind of sets up my whole "yeah whatever dude" attitude to the rest of the song

occupy mobb deep (some dude), Sunday, 15 January 2012 12:23 (thirteen years ago)

"I'm On One" was The Source's "Song of the Year" in their 250th issue. Take that news and do what you like with it.

Neanderthal, Monday, 16 January 2012 01:50 (thirteen years ago)

The Source ain't went this hard since their 184th issue

some dude, Monday, 16 January 2012 02:01 (thirteen years ago)

i think its a better candidate than most. that beat was so good. i like the whole atmosphere of it. Drake had a dope hook.

that line does make him seem like he discovered slang after graduating high school, but

I Love Pedantry (D-40), Monday, 16 January 2012 02:01 (thirteen years ago)

well Tha Carter II was 'the album that made him want to rap' and that dropped when he was like 19

god "Make Me Proud" is so awful? do the Take Care stans even rep for this song?

ha no question mark on "awful"

unworthy of singing thrash metal at this point in time (some dude), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 14:55 (thirteen years ago)

Not a Drake stan but I'm Drake tolerant, I don't like that song at all. Horrible and annoying melodies/lyrics all over it.

dr dre throwing dubstep balloons (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

t-minus is a really shitty producer

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 8 February 2012 15:52 (thirteen years ago)

the guy who did "How Low" and "Moment 4 Life," to say nothing of your beloved "I'm On One"?

unworthy of singing thrash metal at this point in time (some dude), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 15:56 (thirteen years ago)

and "Poppin' Bottles"! that shit bangs!

unworthy of singing thrash metal at this point in time (some dude), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

"how low" is pretty good, i never understood your head over heels love for the "moment 4 life" beat and yeah "i'm on one" is cool but it's also a co-production so who really knows

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 8 February 2012 15:58 (thirteen years ago)

maybe i should've said that all his beats on the drake album are the worst ones

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 8 February 2012 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

considering that "I'm On One" sounds more like "Poppin' Bottles" than any 40 beat i think T-Minus deserves some credit. in any event T-Minus >>>> the other members of Drake's mentally challenged Ontario Bomb Squad

unworthy of singing thrash metal at this point in time (some dude), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

"The Motto" and "Make Me Proud" beats definitely suck though yeah

Yeah, I have to assume that if this same poll were done again today, "Make Me Proud" would get much more attention - I don't remember hearing it much before the last month or two at most, and boyyyyyyyy is it bad, almost redefines the "lazy Drake hook" for 2012.

"The Motto" I actually kinda like, although the video is almost unprecedentedly lazy, as if they only had about ten minutes each to shoot Drake and Weezy, and just had to make do with what they got. I cannot make sense of the wardrobe in any case.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 3 March 2012 07:04 (thirteen years ago)

'the motto' is a cool song, its the kind of thing anyone could have released & made a hit w/ & its not very "drake-y" but thats to its great benefit

D-40, Monday, 5 March 2012 04:32 (thirteen years ago)
