probably danny brown, but kool a.d.'s verse is the first time i heard anything from das racist that made me go "oh shit" (at least from a rapping standpoint, i think "combination pizza hut & taco bell" is a classic), so i'm gonna vote for that

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:22 (thirteen years ago)

his flow to start that verse gets stuck in my head all the time -- also the "(sports)" ad lib cracks me up

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:23 (thirteen years ago)

el-p's verse is so, so, so awful on this btw, it gives me huge reservations about outright repping for the track

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:24 (thirteen years ago)

despot is terrible too, heems verse is pretty cool once he gets past that terrible singing part that codes to me as some serious self hatred

always forget that exquire has a verse on this

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:26 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I think Heems easily has the best line ("worst rapper on this track, third coolest"), Danny Brown has the best personality and El is probably the most technically skilled, I think Kool A.D. def has the best overall showing

upright shitizen's brigade (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:27 (thirteen years ago)

We talked about this on the last thread, but I really do love the way Despot stacks words

upright shitizen's brigade (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:29 (thirteen years ago)

haha i actually kinda love el's verse on this and this is me saying that

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:30 (thirteen years ago)

danny brown is so dope

BLUNTS PAUL BUNYAN

also that riff about bread and bagels & shit could be super corny but he totally pulls it off

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:30 (thirteen years ago)

"worst rapper on this track, third coolest"

lol i think about this line too much -- i wonder who he's saying he's cooler than? everyone but danny brown & exquire right?

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:30 (thirteen years ago)

despot really is fucking terrible tho

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:31 (thirteen years ago)

yea he is, whiney i have no idea what you're talking about

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:31 (thirteen years ago)

first time someone forwarded this to me i almost didnt even bother listening to the rest

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:35 (thirteen years ago)

I've always loved Despot's stuff. He has a kind of G Rap-meets-Producto vibe that I like, with lots of Big/Em-style internal rhymes

One vodka soda poured over 4-leaf clovers
He be the luckiest fuck this side of the rainbow you know of

soda/over/clover/know of
luck/fuck
He/be
rainbow/you know

upright shitizen's brigade (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:37 (thirteen years ago)

so corny

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:45 (thirteen years ago)

those corny 4-leaf clover rhymes

upright shitizen's brigade (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:46 (thirteen years ago)

he's really clumsy imo

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:47 (thirteen years ago)

dude's voice/delivery is like everything i hated about turn of the millennium indie rap come droning back to life

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:48 (thirteen years ago)

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 2 January 2012 17:00 (thirteen years ago)

he's the drunk driving rapper

Number None, Monday, 2 January 2012 17:02 (thirteen years ago)

Or my "schtick" of referencing song lyrics in threads about the song

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 2 January 2012 17:03 (thirteen years ago)

i love this song

flopson, Monday, 2 January 2012 19:15 (thirteen years ago)

i like kool ad's verse a lot, but none of them are as good as any of the verses on the original?

Jacques_Lamure, Monday, 2 January 2012 20:01 (thirteen years ago)

i really can't even begin to imagine listening to this song and having involved debates about whether 'heems' or 'mr muthafuckin exquire' had a better verses like this is "flava in ya ear" or something

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Monday, 30 January 2012 02:59 (thirteen years ago)

this is all very "of the moment" and this particular hip-hop narrative is def going to end sometime in the next three years if not sooner. the duration of their careers is going to hinge solely on their tenacity and their ability to change with the times-- ie, El-P is doing fine on year 16, while like Sonic Sum isnt

dave cool, Monday, 30 January 2012 03:08 (thirteen years ago)

like, Danny Brown and Mr. eXquire are def gonna have to ultimately prove to the universe that they are more than YouTube dudes that Modest Mouse fans and Soho fashion labels like... which they are! http://i.imgur.com/zi7hd.gif

dave cool, Monday, 30 January 2012 03:10 (thirteen years ago)

exquire is like a less humorless def jux which i think is nice. i don't think his ceiling is much higher than exists currently, tho

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Monday, 30 January 2012 03:10 (thirteen years ago)

danny brown has a higher ceiling but i'm not sure i see him becoming more popular than he already is

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Monday, 30 January 2012 03:11 (thirteen years ago)

meaning, i think danny brown COULD do a lot more but i feel like he might be reaching a level of comfort w/ his standing that means he wont really be motivated to do more

whereas, i feel like exquire, motivation or no, is basically about where he will ever end up

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Monday, 30 January 2012 03:14 (thirteen years ago)

stay cool dave, I enjoy your posts.

I remember sitting in a friend's car about what, uh six years ago, and we weren't even talking about anything related to music and suddenly we were talking about the royal trux and then el p came up, and I remember saying "man I think el p fell off." (this was prob one of el-p's quiter periods where the last thing he released was that weathermen mixtape. At the time I was prob equating a lack of output with a lack of talent or something as horribly thought out.) Friend got kind of bug eyed when I said that and grabbed a blank cd out of nowhere like the cat in the hat and played some track I'd never really heard, the rap song was amazing, floored me. To this day I have no idea what it was. When I asked him where he got it, he said "I don't know, I just have it."

Point being I don't know if you could have the same conversation about any of these dudes because if you were to say ____ fell off on day two you probably could at least argue it out.

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Monday, 30 January 2012 03:21 (thirteen years ago)

I didn't make it clear in my prev post but the track he played was an el-p solo track

five months pass...

I just noticed that when Heems says this

I'm at the Pizza Hut, I'm at the TaExplainco Bell
The combination made my eyes bleed

his background adlib goes ("See what I did there?")

camp lo magellan (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 21 July 2012 06:21 (thirteen years ago)

lol rap genius inserting an Explain into my Taco

camp lo magellan (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 21 July 2012 06:22 (thirteen years ago)

i noticed that the first time i heard this and i spent a long time trying to work out if there was something he was doing there i was missing

thomp, Saturday, 21 July 2012 11:13 (thirteen years ago)

other than 'making a reference to a better known track he is associated with', just in case anyone wanted to be a dick
