so afraid to give the major-label proper rock groop staus quo
the true pasting they deserve,
they give them 2 out of 5 in their lp reviews section this month!!
at the same time, they give underworld the same (2/5) because
(careful not to crack up with hysterical laughter now)
'as with the last album there is no show-stopping born slippy here'
...
well there wasn't a show-stopping born slippy on *any* album
was there idiot features ?
it was a single only.
and what's 2 months off if not a show stopper ???!!!

they're desperate to *pretend* it's their
own tastes that are dictating
what they do/do not cover/rate in the mag (when, as we all know it's
dictated by who/what's *selling*)that they bang on in another bit of the mag about how many bands 'don't get interesting until the 3rd album'.
aaaaarrrrgggggg !!!

they must be rubbing their hands that dance is considered 'dead' in
some circles. backward-looking, hives-loving arseholes.

they give 'lasgo' 1 out of 5, but they're 'trance chancers'.

Yes, I run Q magazine. Ha ha ha ha ha.

Satan (Groke), Thursday, 12 September 2002 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Mr Aizlewood, what's the 9th circle like to live in?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 12 September 2002 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought it was well known that Q gives everything ****

Jeff W (Jeff W), Thursday, 12 September 2002 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Before "Discovery", Q went about four years without giving a single album *****. Know what the last one was before that to get the *****? "Be Here Now".

Exactly.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 12 September 2002 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

how do you people know about such things as Q?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 12 September 2002 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

We flip through it in Waterstones/WH Smith, gareth, then put it back on the shelf

Jeff W (Jeff W), Thursday, 12 September 2002 17:16 (twenty-three years ago)

haha Dom the next one was Semisonic

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 12 September 2002 17:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Semisonic-Daft Punk = Same issue, so Shut Up Ronan.

I honestly don't think Q is that bad, they didn't have that strong an opinion at all. The occasional overenthusiastic article about U2 and The Manics and Paul Weller seem to turn people against the whole thing. The reviews were mostly fine and then the conclusion/star rating they gave was bonkers.

NB I'm not saying it's good either

Graham (graham), Thursday, 12 September 2002 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Watch yr verb tensing.

david h (david h), Thursday, 12 September 2002 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(There was a sentence in the middle about why I used to end up reading it a lot, but I removed it. Honest)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 12 September 2002 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I would have thought 2/5 was a pretty bad review (this is regarding Status Quo). I hardly think it was "fear" that made them give it something higher than one. I mean, if they really wanted to kiss Quo ass, they would surely have given it at least 3 stars. The tendency to praise stuff like Semisonic, Texas and Del Amitri puts people off Q, but there's plenty of good stuff if you avoid this, and look elsewhere. It's better than the smug NME.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 12 September 2002 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't remember the last time I learned anything interesting from Q. There was an article a couple of years back about music in public places, I think...though even that might have been the Guardian.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 12 September 2002 22:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I like the way you used capitals for Up aswell, it could be the name of a film.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 September 2002 13:04 (twenty-three years ago)

that was in the guardian - the one about starbucks ?
if so that was May !! and don't get me started on
the guardian - a *guaranteed* mistake every week on a friday, and
a howler every time. they write the pop stuff like they are talking to people who have *no idea* about pop. at all. they don't talk about iraq like that ! why do they write about pulp like that ? they treat pop like it's a laugh and a joke and ...grrrrrrr... *fuck* !!

piscesboy, Friday, 13 September 2002 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

run by satan but written by his bungling minions surely? te devil has all the grebtest prose stylings

mark s (mark s), Friday, 13 September 2002 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

It's better than the smug NME.

NME gave the latest Semisonic album a bad rating. The bastards.

Daniel_Rf, Friday, 13 September 2002 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

**** Q

Tim (Tim), Friday, 13 September 2002 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I meant it as in more of a concept, but yes it would make a fine film.

Graham (graham), Friday, 13 September 2002 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a howler every time. they write the pop stuff like they are talking to people who have *no idea* about pop. at all. they don't talk about iraq like that ! why do they write about pulp like that ?

this has long been my contention about newspapers. They talk EVERYTHING like that, it's just that it's only when they're on about something you actually know a lot about that you notice.

adam b (adam b), Friday, 13 September 2002 15:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Daniel actually they gave it 5 out of 5...

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 September 2002 19:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes it should have got 8 out of 5 Ronan.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 13 September 2002 19:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it was Arab Strap who put "Ugly and uninteresting - 1/5 Q" in their ads as a sort of badge of pride ...

robin carmody (robin carmody), Friday, 13 September 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

There was this one Semisonic song I really liked, and I can't remember for the life of me what it was - not Secret Smile or Closing Time, the other one...

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 13 September 2002 20:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Out of 5 I'd give it 1 (listen) ho ho!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 September 2002 20:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan: No, that was "Q". "NME" slagged Semisonic off, I'm pretty damn sure.

Mr Swygart: Was it "Chemistry", the kinda-but-not-quite hit from their third album?

Daniel_Rf, Friday, 13 September 2002 20:54 (twenty-three years ago)

No, it was off the other album, which I don't remember the name of now either... the one before All About Chemistry, in other words.

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 13 September 2002 20:57 (twenty-three years ago)
