Way to take the valid discussion from my thread and turn it into the excel sheet stuffed animal lining up that you rarely see outside of the metal threads. Anyone who earnestly posts in this shit is a herb

i don't know how a post in this thread could be more earnest than whiney's

billstevejim, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 00:03 (thirteen years ago)

"the year we're in" (or in this case "the year that just passed") will probably always win this?

billstevejim, Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:10 (thirteen years ago)

oh wait i didnt read the thread

billstevejim, Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:11 (thirteen years ago)

i voted for 2009, that felt like some sort of nadir that there's been at least a minor rebound from in subsequent years

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:12 (thirteen years ago)

2009 sucked if u dont like the four best rappers of the past five years

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:17 (thirteen years ago)

fuckin herbs itt

dayo, Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:19 (thirteen years ago)

fwiw i agree with deej's general feeling of 'every year has lots of good stuff' but for me 2009 had the least therefore my answer

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:23 (thirteen years ago)

but then unless he's saying 2009 was the BEST year of the last five then of course his post is pretty much meaningless

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:24 (thirteen years ago)

any year w/ quarantine, burrrprint, the return of mr. wipe me down and tear gas couldnt possibly qualify as the worst in rap history

maybe on a singles level things were worse? idk i liked 'swag surfin' too

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:24 (thirteen years ago)

9x outta 10

billstevejim, Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:25 (thirteen years ago)

trap goin ham

billstevejim, Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:25 (thirteen years ago)

but...every year has dope records. pointing a few out doesn't automatically disqualify a year. you could at least suggest a different year.

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:25 (thirteen years ago)

i dont know anything from '10 as good as what i listed in '09!

obv there are different ways to measure this, but in terms of long players '09 is one of my favorite years in recent memory

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:31 (thirteen years ago)

'08-'09 were both highly enjoyable imo

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:31 (thirteen years ago)

i had a good time in 09

ciderpress, Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:34 (thirteen years ago)

i had fun in 2001

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:38 (thirteen years ago)

loved 08-09 so much

flopson, Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:03 (thirteen years ago)

2003

the parable is the parable of the (Lamp), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:09 (thirteen years ago)

2003 was awesome

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:13 (thirteen years ago)

i honestly think that OBJECTIVELY SPEAKING the worst year for rap music has got to be 1980 or some shit--no one who isn't nostalgic would willingly sit through all those endless, repetitive, primitive raps & beats. like outside of a handful of classics per year how many minutes of listenable rap music even existed

flopson, Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:16 (thirteen years ago)

2003 was awesome

joe budden superfan or?

probably t.i. / lil jon era is remembered fondly by those who were in college then

also wasn't 'never scared' '03?

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

"those who were in college then" wtf

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:27 (thirteen years ago)

haha i assumed it was a weird shot at me being young but i was, in fact, an undergrad in 03 so

the parable is the parable of the (Lamp), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:28 (thirteen years ago)

idk what i really meant by that, except that i was in college then, & going to lots of parties where that music was being played, and i remember it fondly

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:28 (thirteen years ago)

anyway pt is '03 was an awesome year

the falloff years for me would have been mid-decade

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:29 (thirteen years ago)

'06-'07 was pretttty slow

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:29 (thirteen years ago)

artists/crews that were at their peak or made some of their best music in '03: roc-a-fella/dipset, lil jon, 50/g-unit, t.i., neptunes, three 6, david banner

'06 was definitely a little bit of a bummer at the time but some of the records from that year have aged really well, '07 felt a lot of fun at the time by comparison

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:33 (thirteen years ago)

yeah 03 was my gut reaction but i did some google research and i guess its mostly that 03 was a low ebb in my interest in rap and not really that bad a year

the parable is the parable of the (Lamp), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:34 (thirteen years ago)

i think the reason '06 feels so lame now is that that was the exact moment when houston & hyphy were both not living up to the expectations set by the press at that time

what singles were charting then Al?

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:39 (thirteen years ago)

big songs of '06 were like: what you know, throw some d's, ridin', it's goin' down, stuntin' like my daddy, shoulder lean

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:47 (thirteen years ago)

also lol we fly high

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:50 (thirteen years ago)

'07-'08 is my low point for music in general, so I would go with one of those 2.

billstevejim, Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:56 (thirteen years ago)

"probably t.i. / lil jon era is remembered fondly by those who were in college then"

Yeah, I fit this.

i think we fly high and shoulder lean have probably aged the best. although 'what you know' IS the best

#YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 07:01 (thirteen years ago)

def can see why rolling ringtone ish started that year. arguments over fischscale meaning hip-hop wasn't dead, lmao

i wish songs this great were still big hits

"worst year" is obv a kind of meaningless term and every year we all find rap to love but in terms of those rap songs being huge ubiquitous hits it's hard not to pick one of the years post-2008

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 2 February 2012 08:49 (thirteen years ago)
