Difficult choice. I'll have to seriously think about this one.

Turrican, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 01:30 (fourteen years ago)

Refused.

Simon H., Tuesday, 10 January 2012 01:31 (fourteen years ago)

CRASS

Ed Love (rip van wanko), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 01:32 (fourteen years ago)

Refused by a significant margin

blurgh (jjjusten), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 01:32 (fourteen years ago)

refused, but i can't think of many bands i wouldn't vote for against at the drive-in

seasonal thug (some dude), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 01:54 (fourteen years ago)

...so why are they being compared again?

fauxmarc, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 02:07 (fourteen years ago)

because they both reunited today!!

bob loblaw people (dayo), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 02:09 (fourteen years ago)

refused easy

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 02:28 (fourteen years ago)

Refused by a hair, if only to pay homage to my straight edge past.

fIREHOSE

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 03:42 (fourteen years ago)

This is a tough, tough poll. Going to give the edge to Refused making a grand fucking statement and then stopping.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 04:06 (fourteen years ago)

I hate Refused and I sort of liked One Armed Scissor at the time, so ATDI.

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 12:45 (fourteen years ago)

I forgot I knew who Refused were!

this is going to take a minute...

Blah Sabbath (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

Refused didn't do choreographed 'spontaneous' star jumps etc at the same points during the same songs tho

bingo dabber acid, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

There was a time when i really like Refused. I think I even had a refused shirt at one point. lol. Could never get into ATDI although somehow managed to see them several times. Anyway - Refused.

☆★☆彡彡 (ENBB), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

lol I this was totally the shirt I had:

☆★☆彡彡 (ENBB), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

Gonna vote ATDI but I don't think I have a use for either of these bands anymore.

Rapper rejoins fat man's co-op (NickB), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

I have never listened to Refused but I really liked ATDI when I was 20/21, saw them live, still really love the Vaya EP. So them, by default.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

I have never knowingly heard a note by either of these bands; they both became a Thing right when I was fully submersing myself in every variety of dance music I could get my hands on and I therefore didn't give a shit about either of them.

Bam! Orgasm explosion in your facehole. (DJP), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 16:01 (fourteen years ago)

I was really into punk at the time but mainly old punk and hardcore and these bands were way too produced/slick sounding. Still are tbh.

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

The reason Refused hit me so hard was that, previously, I had been pretty much on an Epitaph/Fat Wreck kick when it came to punk and hearing Refused shook me out of that rut.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

Refused solely because of The Shape of Punk to Come, their other albums are p. boring imo

bomb.gif (dan m), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

i like their demos just as a headclearing hardcore blast sometimes, but yeah "shape" is the big winner

Epitaph-signed band Refused shook you out of that rut, huh?

pug waffle (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

Oh jesus here comes Whiney to start another argument by completely twisting a post. Yes, Refused was on Epitaph but they sounded nothing like the Lagwagon/Offspring/Bad Religion/Pennywise axis that I was referring to.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

I was just saying maybe it wasn't jon that switched gears,,, but punk rock itself

prediction: poll result will be significantly closer than the impression given by a tally of stated votes in thread

thomp, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

Holy shit DJP you really need to hear shape of punk to come by refused, you will love it I promise, its "hardcore" by way of disco volante.

blurgh (jjjusten), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

I must be missing something majorly with Refused. I know that album is supposed to be a classic but it just sounds like all other horrible mall-core screamo bullshit to me, only with a few twiddly bits on top.

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 17:44 (fourteen years ago)

Gonna vote ATDI but I don't think I have a use for either of these bands anymore.

my thoughts exactly.

goole, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:14 (fourteen years ago)

i could never take either of these bands seriously tbh

goole, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:14 (fourteen years ago)

love both, vote refused

flopson, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

both these bands are pretty good at rocking out

and then starting up again

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

i liked both of these bands when i was a kid, and while im generally extremely sceptical and unimpressed by bands reforming im sort of a whole other level of unimpressed by this news. seriously why would you give a fuck about this in 2012?

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

lol

markers, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

For the same reason someone might have given a fuck about Van Halen's original lineup. Or the Black Sabbath original lineup. Or My Bloody Valentine in 2008. Or Mission of Burma. Or whoever.

I feel like we go through this argument every time a band reunites. Its nostalgia, for better or worse.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:09 (fourteen years ago)

like 99% of people's taste in "new" bands is driven by nostalgia anyways

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:13 (fourteen years ago)

to be fair the mbv thing isn't comparable as it was part of some weird collective forgetting how much people should really just listen to any other shoegaze group due to hype from that precious white people in japan movie

wait what

anyone even with the reunion i still think it's weird/pressed to compare refused + atdi, they were never really in the same light.

fauxmarc, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:14 (fourteen years ago)

AtDI have at least one song I can bear, One Armed Scissor. Colonel Poo's post describes Refused p well for me.

awall (AWALL), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

haha, coincidentally http://www.stuffyouwillhate.com/2011/12/lets-talk-about-how-bad-90s-hardcore-art-design-was/

fauxmarc, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

both are 2 of the more eclectic post-hardcore bands, both peaked in the late 90's shortly before breaking up & starting shittier projects, pretty similar imo

flopson, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

xp Punk gives metal a running for genre with worst art

awall (AWALL), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno, i think refused hasn't aged well at all, at the drive in has hooks and stuff so i think they age better

the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

neithere have aged well in terms of the style they played being currently unfashionable but imo they both still sound good, it's not like "what was i thinking?" or anything

flopson, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

i didn't mean aged well in terms of fashionable, i meant when i hear refused they kinda just sound like a hipper spazzy nu metal band kinda...i dunno

the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:32 (fourteen years ago)

thats what they are though!

flopson, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:33 (fourteen years ago)

well theyre not /that/ spazzy

flopson, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:34 (fourteen years ago)

NEW POLL WHO'S SPAZZIER REFUSED OR FRODUS

fauxmarc, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

i'm not really dissing, just remember that album being this EPIC thing and then i hadn't heard it for years and years and put it up on my ipod and was kinda "eh" on it i guess.

at the drive in is still catchy to me

the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

refused is p nu metal. make the production and vocals worse on new noise and you're practically listening to limp bizkit at times.

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:46 (fourteen years ago)

oh god I was trying to figure out why I was having such an issue with the vocalist for Refused and thanks to this latest conversation I realize why: bROKENCYDE

atdi vs refused vs american nightmare

pat methamphetamine (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

los crudos was a reunion I could get behind tbh

bomb.gif (dan m), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 22:34 (fourteen years ago)

voting at the drive-in. shape of punk to come is an important record, atdi are more personally important.

Whiney vs. (BradNelson), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 22:54 (fourteen years ago)

You could also poll which post-breakup wank project is better, Text or Mars Volta. If you wanted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRln5EtZpwY

Simon H., Tuesday, 10 January 2012 22:59 (fourteen years ago)

actually, come to think of it, both bands splintered into two projects, one straightforward, one proggy.

Simon H., Tuesday, 10 January 2012 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

'the huntsville treaty' off the text album was always my favorite http://www.myspace.com/text26er/music/songs/the-huntsville-treaty-44789041

you what album that i just listened to that smokes "the shape of punk to come" - calculating infinity by dillinger escape plan

shit is so off the chain it makes me giggle sometimes, just this bizarrely aggressive mix of nu-metal, hardcore, math rock, jazz fusion guitar mag bullshit...so ridiculous

the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

I missed the poll but I'm going to vote At the Drive-In since I never wasted a dime on them. Refused actually tricked me out of $9.99 once.
