Ketjak Allusion Sitings

Last night I went to an animation festival (in other words, just a bunch of animated shorts strung after one another and shown without intermission) and during one of the shorts which involved various characters breaking out of the body of someone else, there was a brief moment when a man popped out surrounded by other men and they started to go into the Ketjak* just for a second. I heard a much longer allusion in a Mister Bungle song. And it is sampled pretty nicely in Psychic TV w/ White Stains' "At Stockholm," with Genesis intoning, "We have the ectoplasm of youth, the final psychic rally," above the sound of the ketjak. Also, it was the title of a book by Ron Silliman, for what that's worth.

*The Balinese monkey chant, a type of performance based on excorcism rituals, but to some extent created to entertain tourists, if I recall correctly.

One the limited edition verz of *Yerself is Steam,* Mercury Rev stick a sample of it at the beginning of their cover of "If You Want Me To Stay" for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

"Sitings?" Almost five years later and I catch my typo?

Sun City Girls did a kind of trio version called "The Venerable Song", on Bright Surroundings Dark Beginnings. A live version also appeared on Kaliflower called "The Venerable Uncle Tompa".

The Ketjak is used in the soundtrack to Blood Simple, but you probably knew that.

I went through a phase in 1991 where I would listen to the 20 minute version off the Nonesuch CD Music From The Morning Of The World at the beginning of every day.

We read an unpublished (unless it's published now) book of poetry called Ketjak in one of my classes.

By Ron Silliman, I assume? That was published, but maybe it was out of print at the time you read it in class.

back in the 80's somebody recorded a "full" (their description) 40-minute version of this for me. Anybody know where that might be from?
