She's getting all the hype and it seems her thing is to rap on top of electronic songs (lazy jay, lone, machinedrum, jimmy edgar). She'll be releasing her debut album later this year. Will she rise or will she flop?

If she can throw together more stuff that sounds as interesting as 212, then yeah, I think she'll do just fine. I guess we'll have to wait and find out.

Yeah I'd say Kid Sister works best as a sonic comparison (the big slab of dancehall influence in Lady Stush separates her from this conversation for me), Lady Sov as an example of where/how her career might go wrong.

I love they say she's not a one trick pony, yet every track she released in 2011 was just her performing on top of a song that already existed. That's exactly ONE trick.

that's not really a 'trick,' that's just something a lot of new artists do, especially rappers, whether you think that's a valid measure of their talent or creativity or not. obviously that's probably not what she's going to do on her major label album anyway.

Oh yeah, I'm sure whatever turns up on her album will be created solely for her with her in the loop of the process. Look forward to it, tbh.

It's not bad, but I feel like I've heard tracks before where it's just somebody chatting up somebody else over a beat. From what I understand, though, this was just made to be runway music.

I swooned over "212" too, and notice I really don't have any other nasty female rap on 125-130 BPM house beats, which is a pretty natural environment. Not asking for a derail, but I'd appreciate a few pointers to Bank's precursors.

It's kind of astounding to me that she still has a career that even includes festival bookings more than a decade after her only album, which wasn't even much of a hit. (I like the album fwiw.)
