noted on the rolling reggae thread, but he definitely deserves his own. all the classics on Stalag are great. Also quite like this:

(sorry if posting the big hit is cheapening the thread)

re-posting my weird post from the rolling reggae thread:
oh man weird timing. i came on this thread half an hour ago to show my friend tippa lee one of the videos on here, and we saw that winston riley post. that really fucked tippa up. he had to call his friend osbert maddo to tell him. (although apparently maddo and riley had bad blood over money. riley kinda known for not paying people.)
ALSO, the other weird thing is we had been listening to a great don evans record on techniques that riley had made when i got on this thread.
but, yeah, anyway, r.i.p. winston riley. i've been listening to a ton of techniques stuff the last couple of months.

wtf
Riley also had been shot in August and was stabbed in September last year. His record store in Kingston’s downtown business district also was burned down several years ago. Police have said they know of no motives and have not arrested anyone.
Kurt Riley told the Jamaica Observer newspaper that the family did not know what motivated the attacks.

when i asked tippa why someone would shoot winston riley he said money. he probably owed money. that's just conjecture though. again, it was weird to go on ilx and see that and be with the only person i know who knew winston riley. tippa made a dvd and it had lots of live performances in it, and when he was in jamaica 4 years ago he asked winston if he could use a rhythm that belonged to winston and that he would give him money to use it. he said riley was the only person he asked who didn't want any money. he liked tippa. but, apparently, maddo/madoo and others have very different stories. but there are so many different sides to people like that. they are complex! in the end, they cranked out a hell of a lot of great music, that will be remembered long after they are gone.

RIP
I don't claim a great degree of knowledge about him but 'Bam Bam' is all time and I've got a wealth of enjoyment out of the 'Dancehall Techniques' comp he did (or which came out under his name idk) some years back
