Also: I'd never heard LYLLS until people started voting for it, then I listened to it 20 times in a day and I've never listened to it again but it's still circumnavigating my brain. Only my mind has decided the chorus goes "I-I love you like a lunchbox baby".

I have Spotify links for everything, I'll post them at the end of each day. In theory there are different links for US and GB users for a lot of (mostly major-label) songs but if that link works for US people then the system must be clever enough to handle that.

I voted for MindKilla but Glass Jar was an amazing statement piece. So few 'overture' style album openers are effective, but this one works both in context and on its own.

Selena was on my long list, but #77 is about right. Seems like a more polished* version of things (e.g. Britney) I've heard before.

I love Glass Jar but I never listen to it on its own, so voted for the album instead.

I'm surprised at how low both "Glass Jar" and "Hell on Heels" are!

Wasn't feeling the Gomez but like the Gang Gang Dance so far, really reminds me of something but can't think what (esp the voices in the background)

xp i'd expect most voters to go for the albums rather than individual tracks b/c they're both so strong

the weird thing about "hell on heels" is that it's a total red herring for the album (while being an excellent single in its own right), but actually once you've heard the album it also makes complete sense, but in a very different way - kind of like you have to readjust the angle you're hearing it from.

my favourite bit is miranda's entrance, her voice raw like paint stripper - kind of the "HI WE REALLY MEAN THIS SHIT" moment

i fully expect hell on heels (the album) to place very highly

Love the harmonies on HOH mostly.

I dunno about the poll but one thing I would recommend is trying to get in touch with tpp or find one of his 'round up' posts from last year. Basically once every three months he'd do a round-up of goon-approved mixtapes or things for people to check out and I think they were v. important for guiding the listening of many people like me who love rap and try to follow the thread, but get bogged down as the rep bookmark grows bigga.

Just now finally really digging into this list via the Spotify playlist (which is great and super helpful, though missing a couple of things that maybe weren't yet on Spotify on the time, mainly "212"). As always, the pop and hip-hop stuff was no surprise but I really groove on the chance to touch in with, and cherry-pick, the mysterious goon and beach factions. Thanks, y'all.

This time last year, I was already chomping at the bit for vote for favorite tracks. This year, I have no idea what will be on my ballot. I'm not out of the loop entirely, but I haven't been as proactive this year as in years past about finding good things.

Feel the same johnny. This year's been a little more tepid - there's still stuff out there I just don't feel as whizz bang about this year as last year. Honestly I think 2011 was my favourite year for music since a long time

Possibly just more of a struggle to discover new stuff after the clampdown on illegal downloading. I get the impression that the unintended consequence is less music being talked about, not just less music being downloaded.

If anything, it's not access to less music this year that's caused me to back away. It's more.

I mean, I just see walls of new names and free downloads and I don't feel like digging through it all.

I always feel vaguely guilty about not posting more of the stuff I listen to to ILX but a lot of the time there isn't quite an appropriate thread. :/

I can see how it would feel weird to start one, but there a few posters (like those MikoMcha named for a start) that should probably just have rolling threads of their favorites. or idk, just start a bunch of single-track threads? ilm has felt kind of sedate this year, sometimes for the best, but all those artist polls--some of which I have totally enjoyed don't get me wrong--have often made the board seem backward-facing this year.

There has been a lot of good music new around this year imo, but especially with the demise of Outloud (RIP) I have no idea whether anyone's listening to the same stuff as me.

Would you prefer a set number of each (non-combined) or just wild west open endless nominating?

I have no objections to 20+20 or whatever. Also thinking of "pre-loading" the nominations list with the results from the P+J/Pitchfork/RA/etc EOY lists. The most important thing is that nobody is blocked from voting for an album/track just because it wasn't nommed, second most important thing is that the list isn't completely huge and unreadable.

Because iirc there's rarely been an instance where something that could've made the top 50/77/whatever# has missed out on doing so (last year's LMFAO travesty not withstanding).

The master noms list sometimes reaches critical mass, though, making it impossible to go through for voting purposes.

tbh i've spent more of the past few months watching sport than hunting music - i have been doing the latter of course but i haven't had the time to think of the best way to hype something on ilm, a few of the things i have hyped got v tepid responses - i feel pretty out of touch w/ critical consensus this year. i don't even feel like i want to talk about rap or dance music with ilmers right now
