ROLLOLOLOLOOO: A Rolling Thread for Posting And Discussing Key Tracks + Bits from the other Rolling Threads

Zoiks! Those rolling threads can be a bit big and scary can't they? So how about a thread to compile some of the stuff people have been really digging on the specialist branches of ILM? Feel free to post particular tracks - either personal or consensus faves.

And need I ask we be constructive with criticism and respect each other's opinions and blahblahblah...

Is this the right thread to mention this wholly bizarre thing I found on Spotify:

Weekend Nachos - Worthless

I've never really had much time for hardcore, and less and less time for metal and hard rock in general lately. But I thought I'd dip into the metal countdown and pick a few things at random. "Weekend Nachos" - the most sunny-sounding pair of words. Then I put them on. I think I must have sat spellbound by this for the full album. Each track is about 1:30, all blending in together, except for the title track that is 2 minutes of monotonous guitar feedback followed by this insane crushing doom riff. They really seem know how to do build and release properly - there'll be a slow grinding repetitive thing that bursts into furious hardcore with the odd metal squeal thrown in just to stop it sounding one-note.

Are those really the lyrics posted in the comments box? They're easy to ignore, but at the same time I guess if you're going to do teenage fury, you should do it like this.

I fucking love it.

DJP, what's the thing you found on spotify? Some people don't have it (and others of us refuse to partake in its evil unless strictly necessary).

It is song called "Hands From Above" by a Brooklyn rapper named Boogie that... is basically a dude rapping over The Knife's "Heartbeats"

xp to dog latin:
Redlight, who I believe is british, has been talked about a bit on the uk funky thread, but tbh I'm not sure what thread this song would go on. I think I remember you saying you like the Invasion of the Killer Mysterons comp, and he's got a track on there called "MDMA".

The lyrics along with the music box melody on this are heartbreaking. Guy works in the Home Depot all day (he actually does in RL) and goes home to whisper in his wifes ear at night "Ill never get used to it". Meanwhile, the whole world is made through backroom deals.

People praising the Pistol Annies album as the best album addressing the recession should check out his album, "We Live In Rented Rooms".

This is my favourite break from regional thug thread so far. It has that awkward Timbo thing going on that is like crack to me.

http://soundcloud.com/souvaris/irrereversible

Here's "Irrereversible" by Souvaris. It's the final track on what was pre-announced as their third and final full-length album; there's a farewell gig next month, and that's that. They supported Zun Zun Egui last year, which was logical, given their post/math/kraut leanings and their winning way with an odd time signature. (In other words, they move like LJagger-catnip.)

Anyhow, as recorded swansongs go, this is a hell of a way to bow out: it's nine minutes of escalating intensity, which navigate the switches in signature as if they were the most natural thing in the world. At one point, they're alternating between 10/4 and 11/4 (yeah, I had to count), then later they drop into 9/4... then towards the end, it's 4/4, played as 16-bar sections, each one building up, and up, and up.

Weekend Nachos was my fav HC/metal record of last year. Didn't have time to participate in the ILX metal poll, but was surprised to see it didn't rank higher. Sometimes being at the other end of the list is a good thing, though.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:09 (fourteen years ago)

Aw. I liked Souvaris. RIP.

(Though I had to stop for a moment to remember that they were not similarly named labelmates Soe'za)

rob: that Redlight track you posted upthread has a Joker remix that contends with Kingdom's "Mind Reader" in the slamming Night-Slugs-esque banger + female vox stakes. You heard it?

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 13:41 (thirteen years ago)

love that redlight track!

just sayin, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 14:46 (thirteen years ago)

i have heard that Joker remix, but only in less than ideal circumstances--I'll dig it up again and check it out, thanks!

The Donato Dozzy and Neel collaboration album Voices From The Lake is The Shit. Not posting any tracks because you really have to listen to it as a whole to feel the love.

listening to this right now, it's indeed the shit.

This is one of them timeless albums I will still love in a decade, like Monolake's Cinemascope. Its seamless, you become so immersed in it you don't even notice what track you are listening to.

holy shit that voices from the lake album is mind-blowingly good O_O

Noticed the voices from lake got a 5/5 on ResidentAdvisor which is a score I haven't seen in a while. Really nice album. Sort of reminds me of GAS. Is this another of Voigt's many projects?
