I've never seen Ned so excited over a festival line-up before

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 19:22 (thirteen years ago)

oh how my heart has yearned to see Avenged Sevenfold in Atlantic City

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 19:23 (thirteen years ago)

It should have been like that Super Kiss tour from 1979 where they were planning three day events at each stop or something. Circuses and grottoes and...

I count at least six bands I'd love to see, Liturgy in particular is a nice addition. I continue to be astounded to see that Avenged Sevenfold is still a thing.

one of the (several) songs they have all over hard rock radio the last couple years sounds like a horrific attempt at recreating metallica power ballads circa "nothing else matters"

every kind of overdriven amp it's possible to hear in one day!!

Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 20:30 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah thats about the time they went to complete shit. I'll actually sort of defend City of Evil as a not completely awful metalcore album before they decided they wanted to go all Use Your Illusion.

(xpost)

Gonjasufjanstephen O'Malley (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 20:30 (thirteen years ago)

would watch a bunch of these bands tbh - Black Angels, Roky, Liturgy, etc.

I saw on Twitter that someone wasted the 'Brochella' joke on this. Think it should've been saved for the inevitable Scrillex fest.

lol @ me not knowing how to properly spell Skrillex

Gonjasufjanstephen O'Malley (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

is Roky still playing with that wimpy band?

dave coolier (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 20:44 (thirteen years ago)

According to the suit, Vlad received a text message from Ross on the afternoon of the Ozone Awards that read, "N----- will learn ... trillaaaa Skrilleeeex."

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 23:33 (thirteen years ago)

why does anyone care about metallica corp anymore?

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 23:33 (thirteen years ago)

man Metallica playing The Black Album in its entirety in 2012 is about as exciting as Def Leppard playing Slang live start to finish

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 23:57 (thirteen years ago)

lololol

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:06 (thirteen years ago)

I saw metallica in 96 at the barrowlands and they played 2 songs off load and 7 or 8 off the black album. So chances are this gig is metallica playing 1 song they don't usually.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:07 (thirteen years ago)

like the thing is, Black Album songs have typically translated poorly to a live setting because they're so slick and overproduced on disc, which is really the only reason they work.

"Enter sandman" is still kinda fun live, "Sad But True" gets almost unlistenable due to Lars' inexplicably adding an extra beat in the chorus which kills the momentum...I mean who in their right mind is going "OH SHIT I'M GONNA HEAR MY FRIEND OF MISERY LIVE???!!!"

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:10 (thirteen years ago)

not even markers cuz he wouldnt actually go

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:11 (thirteen years ago)

idk that I'd even wanna hear Master live at this stage, w/ James' vocals being what they are now, though admittedly when I saw them in 1999 they did do a killer version of "Blackened"...

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:12 (thirteen years ago)

they suck really bad. i feel bad for roky.

scott seward, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:16 (thirteen years ago)

skot what year did metallica split in your mind?

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:18 (thirteen years ago)

black album was the end of the road for me. i bought it, but i wasn't happy about it. even before that, i hated how and justice for all sounded. and it was too long. garage days EP is the last thing i absolutely loved by the band.

scott seward, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:20 (thirteen years ago)

actually i bought load too. played it once. sold it years later on ebay for a handsome profit.

scott seward, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:20 (thirteen years ago)

the vinyl obviously. nobody wants your load cd.

scott seward, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:21 (thirteen years ago)

Load and Re-Load has the strangest guitar production, so unappealing and bland

xpost lol was gonna say

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:22 (thirteen years ago)

i didn't mind Load, it just felt like a side-project album. Re-Load was the end point, that was really bad. Except it did get even worse after that.
I didn't get into metallica til 91 but it was when a friend loaned me ride the lightning and master of puppets. i bought the black album but didn't like it anywhere near as much as those 2. Sad but True was easily the best thing on it but i do still dig enter sandman.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:23 (thirteen years ago)

very tempted to go to this actually...

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:26 (thirteen years ago)

you could chaperone markers. Make sure he stays close to snacks stalls

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:30 (thirteen years ago)

Clearly Metallica's problem is that they need MORE collaboration... This would be great if Metallica played with everyone on the bill: Arctic Monkeys & Metallica, Best Coast & Metallica, Black Angels & Metallica, Roky & Metallica, etc. The penultimate step would be to pull people out of the audience for karaoke.

Stockhausen's Ekranoplan Quartet (Elvis Telecom), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 03:11 (thirteen years ago)

idk that I'd even wanna hear Master live at this stage, w/ James' vocals being what they are now, though admittedly when I saw them in 1999 they did do a killer version of "Blackened"...

saw them last year and james' vocals were fine

Whiney vs. (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 03:15 (thirteen years ago)

The penultimate step would be to pull people out of the audience for karaoke.

judging by some of their 90s MTV specials, they've already done this!

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 03:16 (thirteen years ago)

xpost c'mon man James' vox are nothing even close to what they used to be, and unworthy of singing thrash metal at this point in time.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 03:16 (thirteen years ago)

I cannot see me paying that much to see this but I am intrigued because I live so close and it's an interesting mix of bands plus 'Lightning' is my favorite Metallica album (and I don't think they EVER played 'Escape' live) although if anyone knows any magazine or website who wants a retired writing guy to pull a Brett Favre and throw interceptions for the Jets and get a purple hand for the Vikings unretire, I would promise a well-written review and zero expenses passed onto the publication in exchange for getting me in. I would actually lose a lot of money to take off work for the two days but money isn't everything...

Fucked Up • Hot Snakes • Titus Andronicus • Roky Erickson • Liturgy

would happily pay, i dunno, like 25 bucks to see this lineup

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 05:24 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i dont get all the ppl who wouldnt go to this

dave cool, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 05:31 (thirteen years ago)

pretty sure the price has something to do with it. not that it's not a good deal considering all the bands involved, but still a lot to drop in one sitting.

(then again, I paid like $60 to watch two over the hill rappers go ham for 2.5 hours, so take that with a grain of salt.)

I think maybe someone booked in that 70s black protopunk band of 60-something-year-olds called Death (who are originally from Detroit) that we allow to co-exist (since there is no eartly way they could ever be mistaken for our DEATH). Both bands own US trademarks on aspects of the name...so there has been no conflict. But this is DUMB with a capital D. Please write to complain about the confusion. THANKS. ERIC GREIF
