There was some discussion on this Sandbox thread about electronic music with long, rolling synth loops a la Tangerine Dream:
http://beta.ilxor.com/sandbox/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?action=showall&boardid=142&threadid=1547
There were some good suggestions on the thread, but basically I like this kind of music the best when it's married with dancey beats (it doesn't have to be actual club music, but it has to have some kind of beats). So it'd be nice to hear some recommendations in this vein. I'm looking mostly for instrumental stuff, though I don't mind some limited vocal bits. It can be old school synth disco, like Kebekelektrik, or newer stuff with retro sounds, like Alex Moulton or Acid Washed, or even trance, like Cosmic Baby. The only exception is Italo disco; I know there are plenty of Italo tunes like this, but most Italo tunes have always sounded kinda cold and detached to me. So I'm looking for something a bit "warmer", though still synthetic, if you get what I mean...
Any recommendations?

I've heard the Manuel Göttsching album, but the guitar solos kind of ruin it for me. I don't rock guitar in my electronic music.
I'll check into the other recommendations once I can listen to them, thanks! And keep them coming!

i'd be pretty surprised if you hadn't already heard this:
Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom - Revelee (Carl Craig Mix)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJlSAEkKYKo
the original version is beautiful and has more detailed synth loopiness, but the beat is just barely there
and more gavin russom:

etienne jaumet's full length album, night music, is really great, was mixed by carl craig.

I have the Gonzalez & Russom album, and while I like their sound, I think it'd be better with beats. Have to check out that Carl Craig remix.

Etienne Jaumet sounds like the sort of thing I'm looking for... Is the rest of his solo album similar to this track?

this is basically a jean michel jarre tune with a beat on it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch_077dGQhk
some of the other stuff on the force of nature album III fits the bill too, but most of it is non-sequencer dubby disco

I've heard the Manuel Göttsching album, but the guitar solos kind of ruin it for me
get your hands on the carl craig (paperclip people) re-edit of 'e2-e4' -- it's perfect. pitched up + kick drum + no noodly guitar solos

there's also basic channel's 'e2-e4 (basic reshape)' which ventures further into pure abstraction

(...except they don't really have dance beats. I thought there was a catch-all thread for stuff that sounds like Tangerine Dream, but this isn't it)
