This was playing in the local shop today. Joining the ranks of Kimya Dawson and Plain White T's, this band earns the rank as "worst music in the world" afaic. Holy shit, this is what kids are buying now??

throwing two cents in:
- S3th is very good at selling himself and his music. Thus, Gravy Train!!! and Hunx & His Punx.
- Most of the music isn't written by him, at this point. Well-documented fact there.
- S3th is, for lack of a better term, a total famewhore douchebag.

Um, yeah? It is actually a reasonable amount of time for a band to have an international presence, yes. I'm not even defending them (though nor am I attacking) but... it just seems really strange to me for this band to only just have a thread. They've been around for fucking ages.

I like the singles I've heard. Friend of a friend did a video or two for them.

Your friend of a friend should be arrested for collaborating in crimes against tunefulness.

well, i've really been slipping on the "keeping up w garage rock" thing for the last year or so, and i never got snagged by hunx prior to that (despite kinda half liking this one gravy train! album once). so i've never knowingly heard H&HP. preparing to remedy...
okay, so i'm listening to "lover's lane", first track offa the 2011 too young to be in love LP. sounds a lot like shannon and the clams, sorta mopey and reverbed-out girl group stuff. cute, gay, deliberately awful, campy & affected as hell, not too far off the rocky horror soundtrack. verdict: better than girls! plus the video's funny. (lol, wiki tells me shannon shaw's one of his punx, so no wonder it sounds like her main band.)
next, i'm listening to "the curse of being young", as recommended by allmusic, famous for their checkmark ranking system. it's better, mostly because there's more shannon, less hunx. catchier tune, too. extends the abject girl group worship buried under oceans of reverb approach, "leader of the pack" beats, tearstained pillows, and so on. like this! nothing earthshaking, but trashy & fun.
since the next track off the album was boring, i'm switching to "u don't like rock 'n' roll", lead track offa the previous year's celebrated gay singles comp. it's nobunny! would bet money that this is a nobunny tune, bubblegum punk pop w a huge debt to the ramones. in the video, drummer looks like tina from the trashwomen but apparently isn't. love this shit, but then i love nobunny because i like to fart and i am crazy. would buy this album, but not the other one. shannon's got a great voice, but the style was too dirgey - have the same problem w the clams.
anyway, hunx obv has the right attitude and i don't give a fuck whether or not he's a famewhore or writes songs or anything. frank-n-furter was a famewhore who didn't write anything, but i would totally have his ass baby.

All I know about this band is that they've got something to do with Gravy Train!! (bad) and The Okmoniks (good), but I thought they were pretty lousy when I saw them. One of the guys in the band seemed nice, but I think he tried making a pass at me?

I guess there's a context in which it's true
― Sylv_ebanks (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 08:17 (thirteen years ago)
anyhoo I like H&HP, never struck me as the sort of music ppl would get furious about, unless you really dislike "oh, you silly" gay vocals of course

Nobunny's cool. I found a "Nobunny loves me" pin that I wore forever before actually ever hearing him.
Yeah I think all those guys come from the same Cali garage scene. It's funny, I didn't know about the Hunx/Gravy Train connection. Saw Gravy Train a long long time ago. I guess trading electroclash for garage rock has been a good move. Atlanta hipsters eat them up and ask for seconds.

His current live show, which essentially consists of thirty five minutes of half-hearted miming, should be avoided at all costs but the solo album might appeal to anyone interested in a synthier Hunx.
