One of the most astonishing things I heard in this was that there are the same amount of independant record shops in the UK as there are in the US. In your face Daniel Bejar! Even if it probably isn't true.

that is almost certainly not true

hey hey, let's not let logic get in a way of a compelling narrative that caters to our anxieties about the world

This is a great film. My favourite documentary of last year. I don't remember that statistic however.

Statistic sounds toooooootally wrong.

I am almost totally sure that is what the chubby lass says before they start handing out flyers in the town centre. I watched it late friday night after some vin and lager but was still quite lucid. Its essential viewing for anyone who owns or works in a record shop.

the Last Shop Standing book that came out a few years ago and was charting the decline in the UK stated there were something like 250 left in the UK. and that sounds like too many to me already

Status Quo fan is hilarious.

Just watched it on iPlayer tonight, really enjoyed it. Noticed the broadcast version is 15 mins shorter than the full cut, anything significant missing?
Would agree with both "funny" and "surprisingly moving".

Agree with all the praise.
Actually shed a tear. Had had a few mind.

I was one of the crowd-fund backers for this film, and I led a couple of panels / Q&As with the director Jeanie Finlay (including the rough cut preview screening 2 years ago), so it's been wonderful to track its progress. Her previous doc Goth Cruise is also highly recommended.

i bought the dvd this week not knowing it was going to be on tv but i don't mind. i enjoyed every minute of it and wished it would have lasted another hour, but the stat about there being the same number of independent record shops in the us and uk is patently nonsense. there are probably more independent record shops in portland than in the uk! the quo fan was fantastic and i loved that he didn't appear to have a record player. the two metal fans should have their own tv show. pisscrist!

pisschrist!
Must admit that I've never questioned the US/UK statistic - not least because Michael Kurtz of Record Store Day was on the panel for the rough cut preview screening (along witn Graham Jones, who wrote Last Shop Standing), and he didn't dispute it either....

Oregon or Maine? I was in Portland, ME recently and found no fewer than four independent vinyl specialty shops within a 5-block radius (and a fifth shop that's part of a northeast chain, but also carries vinyl).

Want to watch this but the iPlayer is UK only. Is this viewable in the US (without running a proxy)?
