live music in germany?

after an hour of relatively fruitless & aimless web-browsing...

i'm going to be in germany in march/april for a couple weeks. frankfurt, dresden, prague (yeah, that's not in germany), berlin.

any recommendations for where to see live music? or record stores i shouldn't miss? i'm into kraut/psych/jazz/"avant-garde" sorts of things i guess. in other words...no DJs.

when i lived in dresden a decade ago, i went to a place called the star club a lot. mostly to see touring indie bands: i remember seeing trans am, us maple, doo rag. it's in a out of the way neighborhood. looking it up it might be called beatpol now.

Check what's happening HBC in Berlin. Still sore that I missed Rother and Moebius playing a set with Kreuzberg heroes, Camera, last fall:

Cologne is a way cool city and I strongly recommend spending some time there if you get the chance. Judging by your music taste, you would be well advised to head to A-Musik: http://www.a-musik.com/pages/index.php?am_id=42eaef3906e84191af15c5b66231b5a8&frames=0&id=3 It's just about the coolest music shop I've ever been to. Just go there and pick up some flyers if you're looking for somewhere to go in the evening.

I thought I was going to be in Cologne for a couple days, but doesn't look like it anymore. Regardless, I'll keep that shop in mind if I do end up there.

I've got to see some kraut hero while I'm there...right? :)

beatpol looks like the place, indeed. thanks for that hint.

HBC doesn't really have anything up for april yet, but i'll keep an eye out.

for live dates the best resource is still Last FM:

substitute Prague, Dresden etc.

six years pass...

Probably the best thread for this: 60,000 went to an anti-nazi concert in Chemnitz on Monday, the week after violence in the city. Headlined by Die Toten Hosen:

Germany stages crowded concerts to study Covid-19 risks

Scientists in Germany have held three pop concerts in a single day to investigate the risks posed by mass indoor events during the pandemic.

Singer-songwriter Tim Bendzko agreed to perform at all three successive gigs. ... Bendzko, meanwhile, said the event had exceeded his expectations.

"We really enjoyed it. At first I thought it would be very sterile because of the music the masks, but it felt surprisingly good," he said.

"I hope that these results will help us to hold real concerts in front of an audience again soon."
