don't like Pt. 2 at all. kind of ruins everything that is good about pt. 1.

Wait I totally had these mixed up; I thought the original had the elec organ verses and strings during the chorus and the remix had the synths and handclaps. Nevermind; lex otm

I love both but went for the the Freemasons remix as it was the version I heard first and it made me fall in love with her. Sandcastle Disco is a better a single though.

version 2.

Every criticism I read of it makes perfect sense until I listen to it again.

There is really no "everything good" about part 1 except the vocals.

You don't all need to pile on and tell me how wrong I am as I already know this, but if it fill some deep-seated urge you may have then go ahead.

slink >>>>>>>>>> stomp

marissa explains it all (The Reverend), Sunday, 26 February 2012 22:44 (thirteen years ago)

stomp >>>>>>>>>>>> jazz ballet slink

although in truth i don't really believe in such pronouncements anyway.

Whiney vs. (BradNelson), Sunday, 26 February 2012 23:17 (thirteen years ago)

like i feel like the instrumentation on pt. 1 is too subtle, sort of a melodically-static slink, whereas pt. 2 is super vibrant

Whiney vs. (BradNelson), Sunday, 26 February 2012 23:21 (thirteen years ago)

My sense as well is that "I Decided" is really such a massive, anthemic tune with some of the best celebratory lyrics of any pop song ever.

("how's it feel to win it, when there's no mountain that you can't move?? Your mind is like a prism for God's light to shine through - ooh!")

Now all the part 2 haters may think turning the tune into a barnstormer is just making this all too obvious, but any other musical setting just wastes that opportunity. Wanting subtlety and restraint from this song is like wanting subtlety and restraint from Queen.

Tim F, Sunday, 26 February 2012 23:42 (thirteen years ago)

there's no lift-off to any freemasons production, they all end up feeling more like a trudge than even a stomp - the exception being their "ring the alarm" remix which works more b/c of the astounding vocal treatment (but is still nowhere near as great as the original)

who the fuck wants queen at all?

lex pretend, Monday, 27 February 2012 07:36 (thirteen years ago)

i want more jazz ballet slink! more tastefulness! more subtlety!

lex pretend, Monday, 27 February 2012 07:37 (thirteen years ago)

i get that, i just feel like there are actual dimensions of melody—this is the wrong word—lost when i listen to the original instead of the freemasons mix

there's something in the synths during the bridge, they just totally lift the track, where the original kind of lilts in place. which is fine, but i want the same things from the song tim does i think?

pt 2 >>>>>>>>>

j. winters (josh), Saturday, 1 October 2016 04:03 (nine years ago)

The last four and a half years have established that the Freemasons were in fact masters of subtlety relatively speaking.

Part 2 was def. one of the biggest tunes of my housepartying years, and maybe the biggest that was never an actual hit (in real terms or in cultural terms a la Robyn).
