No ILM Thread On Avant Garde Lute Player Shockah!! New collaborative album with Jim Jarmusch drops tomorrow. I haven't heard it, but what I've heard of the dude's solo work is pretty great dark trance-y drone, if a little overly serious in that neo-folk kinda way. Anyone dig 'em?

saw him play a couple nights ago; i dunno how "dark" i'd consider it though. it was quite lovely.

I guess dark isn't the right word. Dude just seems...intense.

I've seen him play in a few contexts, including with Jarmusch. Definitely a virtuoso and, yeah, he seems pretty intense in performance but his interviews are pretty relaxed. My favorite material is the collaboration he did with James Blackshaw under the name Brethren of the Free Spirit.

just the fact of these records being lute-sludge combos still cracks me up, but they're v nice from what i've heard. i haven't really heard jarmusch shred yet.

Got a collab CD of his & Gary Lucas's, which is good. And one of his more recent solo albs, Ex patris. Have played both on the radio. So far have liked what I've heard by him. That joint disc with Jarmusch rather, er, intrigues me too:)

i wasn't sold on jarmusch's contributions based on the live set. but when he is on JVW can create a pretty spellbinding atmosphere with pretty minimal playing
