Little as I like machines of any kind in music, I never like to see people call bands lazy for using them.

From the perspective of the person deciding whether to use a machine or a person for drummin, after all, a machine entails more work. It's like a song in itself. In that it's a part of songs.

That should close the discussion, anyway.

lazy, no... wazy, yes indeed.

it's the machines that are lazy/wazy, not the bands - those idle robots should learn to *play* proper instruments, dammit!

It's just that drum machines don't talk back.

You only have the beat the information into a drum machine once.

Drum machines can't take off thier shirt, or yell in a really high pitch voice "1,2,3,4" before each song.

So, i would say: live=dud, but on recording you can use them for a lot of good (this is for rock music, of course they are great in electronic music). So, recording=classic.

I don't care when bands use digital shit live, but I do very much dislike it when you see somebody spend 80% of their allotted time dicking around with machines that have stopped working, trying to find the correct patch/sample etc. Actually, sometimes it's fun watching them get more and more frustrated, standing under intense bright lights in front of a crowd (soon-to-be-lynch-mob)desperately trying to get an LED signal out of some gear that was "working fine during the soundcheck, honest!"

Timbuk 3, to say nothing of Blue Man Group.

Blue Man Group doesn't use drum machines, they just use seven drum kits at once.

..i was just imaging the comment regarding "sleeping with girlfriends" -- and, i guess, it's still not appropriate.
