I'm quite interested in hearing this, myself. Although, I think it'll probably sound like Supergrass, just without the (underrated) bass work of Mick Quinn and Danny Goffey's drumming.

So, I'm listening to Matador now and parts of it are surprisingly excellent, given that I was far less keen on his solo debut. I still don't think it's anywhere near as good as his best work with Supergrass. For all its highlights, there still feels like there's something missing on this album.

Three albums into his solo career, and solo Gaz isn't doing it for me like Supergrass did in their prime. There's some decent things here and there, particularly on Matador, but I miss the contributions of Goffey and Quinn, who were - let's not forget - also songwriters in Supergrass.

Gaz is the obvious successor to Roxy and Ferry's over-determined crooner sophisticate cosplay: he's got a hat.

Driving Drone for Christmas (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 23 December 2018 14:17 (seven years ago)

I have a sneaking suspicion that Gaz has made better post-Britpop music than Damon, Jarvis Cocker or any of the Gallaghers* but he is isn't wearing shoes on the cover of his new album and I refuse to listen on principle.

*High bar, I know.

e hasn't. I liked Supergrass plenty and followed them to the bitter end, but I could live without every one of his solo albums so far.

(and Britpop didn't exist)
