"Terius 'Juvenile' Gray, 28, turned himself in to New Orleans police yesterday (9/17) stemming from an incident in May where he allegedly beat and robbed his barber. According to police, Juvenile accused him of bootlegging his recordings and two associates punched and robbed the man of $200. In a separate incident, Juvenile is also facing a charge of issuing worthless checks."

Eh. His vanity label, UTP, has a big ol' promo-van that one sees around occasionally but that Graveyard Soldaz (Soldiaz? I can't seem to misspell it correctly) song was uninspiring. I got a copy of 600 Degreez (400-500-600 degrees album title war lamest hip hop feud ever) and there are a couple good songs but it's not even up to G-Code level.

The Birdman record on Cash Money later this year is gonna be nice though--Baby is underrated as an MC and he's developing a unique, part-Scarface-forceful, part-Wildean-dandy persona. Check the Baby/Weezy homoeroticism in the "Way Of Life" video for evidence.

they're father and son adam.

marek, Wednesday, 18 September 2002 20:32 (twenty-three years ago)

(aren't they?)

, Wednesday, 18 September 2002 20:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah, they are not father and son for real, its just a metaphor.

Joshd, Wednesday, 18 September 2002 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah, the story of Weezy's father is eloquently told in, er, whatever that silly song on Lights Out is called. It's the heartfelt one. There was a very silly video, very disappointing after the brilliant "Get Off the Corner."

adam (adam), Thursday, 19 September 2002 02:02 (twenty-three years ago)

And an overuse of the word "silly" outs me as the most twee Cash Money fan ever.

Juve The Great is pretty good, actually.

"Juve the Great? More like Juve the Obscure!"
-From some fuckwit review in a Vancouver paper

sym (shmuel), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i think "juve the obscure" is clever but he threw it away and i'm not sure what his meaning is.

i think juve the great is one of my favorite albums from last year. it's got lots of the oldschool juvenile thing and the new, breezier thing and funny skits. i love 'bounce back' and 'down south posted' and 'enemy turf.'

cloverlandthug, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose just that Juvenile is lacking in media attention...nothing profound, tho admittedly clever.

People with the nickname "Birdman"

Robert Franklin Stroud, the "Birdman of Alcatraz", famous for raising birds
Chris Andersen, a former NBA basketball player nicknamed "The Birdman"
Birdman, the stage name of Bryan Williams, a record executive, rapper and record producer
Tony Hawk, a professional American skateboarder
James Ware (wrestler), professional wrestler
Pete Townshend of The Who was referred to as "The Birdman"[citation needed]

^^this would be a good poll

adam, Friday, 11 January 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

I'ma stay thuggin' - how I came is how I leave
When I say somethin, best believe that's how it be
motherfuckers do - yeah I said it, nigga, I mean it
Bitch was dressed in gangsta and switch, wodie, I seen it
Wannabe Juvy-fuckin' hoes gon' get you caught up
Me, I wear Reeboks and Girbauds, and play it smarter
If them boys spin tha bend, they go “bluckahda” on tha block
I'ma be gettin' somewhere, your ass gonna get shot
You paid 1500; I paid 5999
Got diamonds and Rolexes that shine at tha same time
I ain't scared, but I ain't dumb, and I ain't stupid
I know how ta survive in tha project and how ta do shit
If I hit a hustle, I ain't tellin' tha biz
'cause tha witness will tell them people who tha murderer is
Your main man'll put four or five to your wig
take tha cocaine and throw you off the side of the bridge
Gotta be able to think, gotta know when to move out
Gotta read through the lines, gotta know what these hoes 'bout
Gotta separate your business from your family and friends
Gotta bust a nigga head if he plottin to do you in
I done did dirt, so I know what's tha consequences
Let my shit burst tryin' ta knock out a nigga dentures
Always PQ to see through these fools
‘cause we do the shit that people see on the news
So, follow me now into a world of stress
Where wodie tryin' ta get it all 'cause he don't settle for less
Ain't satisfied 'til all of his beef is put to rest
Slangin' that iron...with a soldier rag on his neck
And credit for they people in case they wanna connect
He ain't hidin', he still ridin'...in the 'jects
Ya gotta be willin' to play tha game to its debt
Nigga bang and...hit you in your brain, now who next
I be cool at all times and acknowledge...when I'm wrong
Shit I went through when tha fans got my game real strong
I'm not tha smartest motherfucker walkin'
But I can tell a fake motherfucker when he talkin'
My daddy always told me, "Boy, don't be a follower.
You got a lot of pride, but some you need to swallow up.
You keep that attitude, you won't see tomorrow, bruh."
I soak it up, and got better as a hustler

In 1998, Juvenile released his third album, "400 Degreez," which sold 4 million copies.

random fact. was it his highest selling or what?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 2 March 2008 00:08 (seventeen years ago)

Are you asking "was his only album with a huge cross-over hit his highest selling?"

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 2 March 2008 00:33 (seventeen years ago)

dude 'slow motion' was #1 on the hot 100

J0rdan S., Sunday, 2 March 2008 00:46 (seventeen years ago)

^^^^^^

You making shit more complicated than it should be
You feel your death is coming soon only it could be
Nigga got killed because they never understood me
I know your block is similar to how my hood be
This nigga with all of this playing getting on my nerves
He calling me up on the phone saying he want a Burb
I told his daddy that's not how I handle business, man
How I know you not turning, say that you be with me saying
Doing business with you I'm not even considering
How to be in the safe get around that you niggaz in
I move too fast, remember patience is a virtue
And keep your eyes open cause niggaz gon' observe you
They waiting for the perfect time that they can hurt you
And if they catch you off your basis they gon' serve you
I wonder if my people locked up still remember me
I'm talking 'bout you laying in rotten penitentiaries

deej, Saturday, 19 July 2008 01:33 (seventeen years ago)

whats w/ them editing words like 'pistols' and 'homicide' but not 'motherfucker' (also this is a parental advisory version???)

deej, Saturday, 19 July 2008 01:47 (seventeen years ago)

one year passes...

I'm listening to the new Juvenile record "Beast Mode." It's got some real cringeworthy tracks, but pretty serviceable Southern rap. I like "I'm Da Man" and "Pussy Kat"--the former kind of drunken Southern club rap, the latter a Ying Yang Twins style dirty Neptunes cop. It weirdly has NO significant guest spots, like Juvy went rogue or something. I like it overall. Anyone else even heard it? It's like the saturation of The-Dream and Big Boi albums created a media blackout on all other rap albums for the week or something.
