Thu'um gang (jjjusten), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 20:46 (thirteen years ago)

worst Cure era ever.

piscesx, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 21:35 (thirteen years ago)

in fact scratch that worst *era* ever full stop. 96-99 makes me almost physically ill to recall. this tape reminds me why (no offence dog latin!).

i pick Adnan's.

piscesx, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)

The Sparklehorse song is lovely but Stereolab FTW.

Stereolab, duh.

I really like the Underworld song. It was trying to find that song that led me to this, because I had forgotten I'd never actually checked out Second Toughest In The Infants. GOnna rectify that now.

Had this tape, never played it

Want by Cure is the best song the whole W*** M*** S*****-era though

"Darkside Lightside" is that fast closing song from 1977 isn't it?

good luck Peeta Mellark (Bee OK), Thursday, 22 March 2012 03:28 (thirteen years ago)

checking...yes it is so that, though it might sound dated now.

Ah, there's the track that introduced me to Moloko...

'Saturday' vs 'Adnan's' for me, both were kind of touchstones for different kinds of 18-19 year old mild emo. I don't really remember the Nearly God and Underworld tracks, the rest is just lol 90s effluvia.

side A is horrifying.

"together now" is super good. neneh!

Select mag did some brilliant tapes just before they went under.

Going to go for Saturday actually, Adnan's is wonderful but I *loved* that song throughout most of my late teens.

Second half of this looks pretty decent on second view, I might put a mini playlist together later.

Can't believe I missed all this stuff in summer '96 when my Sublime fandom was in full effect.

The Ben Folds Five song is kind of fun. Actually I think I bought their first album off the back of it and IIRC it's a really good, really smart record and it's a shame they initially kind of got lumped (pun not intended) in with things like POTUSA at the time.

I don't know why I never went on to check out more Sparklehorse cos that track is beautiful. The Cure song ain't too bad, although I understand the album is awful (not a big Cure follower, so). The Ash song was always a highlight on 1977 but I listened to it last night and it has no impact whatsoever anymore, nostalgic or otherwise.
